Pirelli- Ministry of environment: pact renewed until 2014

17 January: by adhering to this voluntary project, we commit ourselves to reducing tyre production’s impact on the environment

The agreement with the Italian Ministry of the Environment for the reduction of tyre production’s impact on the environment has been renewed. Chairman Marco Tronchetti Provera had already signed an agreement in January 2012 with the then Minister of the Environment, Corrado Clini during the “Driving Sustainability: a safe road to the future” international conference that took place at Bicocca. Now, we have renewed our commitment and as a result new production methodologies and technologies capable of respecting the environment even more will be experimented with and tested.

Said Dr. Tronchetti:“The signing testifies to our commitment to the realisation of an industrial model of sustainable growth through the development of avant garde technologies that will enable us to improve quality of life while fully respecting the environment”.

Pirelli HSE world-wide meeting: WE ALWAYS CARE

The fifth HSE world-wide meeting has just ended and took place against the backdrop of the Settimo Torinese industrial centre.

The meeting, in which an analysis of international legislation on HSE was conducted, focused on the way company sustainability objectives are met: reduction of the drawing and consumption of water, reduction and recycling of refuse and the reduction of the number of injuries at work.

This year’s meeting opened with a message from the chairman, Marco Tronchetti Provera, who underlined how HSE subjects represent cardinal values. Twenty-five HSE managers from our factories all over the world took part in the meeting, which included a contribution from HRO director, sustainability and risk governance director and director of operations. Other participants included representatives of the heads of R&D, Purchasing and Engineering with the objective of sharing ongoing projects and reinforcing collaboration between the various company functions.

The 2012-2013 campaign was also officialized under the heading “Working Together for Risk Prevention” in collaboration with the European Health and Safety Agency (EU- OSHA http://osha.europa.eu/it/front-page) of which Pirelli has been an official partner since 2009.

Pirelli China awarded for outstanding sustainability

Pirelli China won “2011-2012 sustainability development in China” Outstanding Case award

Pirelli China has been selected and won “2011-2012 sustainability development in China” Outstanding Case award. This selection was organized by the Chinese Economic Observer.

Organizers evaluated the enterprises in the implementation in China from three core dimensions: economic performance, eco-environmental protection and social responsibility. In particular, our contribution to continuously research and development of green high-performance tyres has been unanimously affirmed.

The Economic Observer is considered to be one of the top three economic-focused newspapers in China and is well regarded for its in-depth special features and commentary,which is much inspired by the British Financial Times. The theme of this selection was “Vision decides the Future”, to look at how, as a public citizen, enterprises can optimize their ethical and social responsibility practices to better help society and vehicles achieve a harmonious coexistence.

The jury agreed that the Pirelli China has made an outstanding contribution from 2011-2012 on the research and development of the green tyre, improving the ecological environment, promoting enterprise and local social harmony, promoting local education and cultural development.
