How do I choose the best tyres for my pick-up truck?

When it comes to choosing the best tyres for your pick-up truck, the most important thing to bear in mind is where you intend to drive it. If you don’t plan on going off-road, motorway terrain (H/T) tyres are a good option for standard road surfaces in both dry and wet conditions. If your vehicle will regularly be driven off-road, you need to consider the deeper tread design offered by all-terrain tyres. Lastly, if your tyres need to cope with extreme off-road conditions, such as dirt, gravel, mud, or rock, specific mud tyres are likely to be the most sensible and safest choice.

How do I find out my pick-up tyre size?

In general, truck tyre sizes are similar to car and SUV tyres. The basic tyre size format is expressed in the same way. For example, a tyre sized as 225/45R17 shows the width of the tyre in millimetres (225), the height/width ratio of the tyre as a percentage (45), the tyre’s radial construction (R), and the diameter of the wheel in inches (17). Sometimes with truck tyres, the letters XL will be added to the end of this series; this stands for “extra load” and shows that the tyres are stronger and can support a heavier vehicle load.
