Memorable Formula 1 victories deserve a worthy celebration. This is why McLaren Automotive decided to create a special version of its 720S dedicated to Daniel Ricciardo, who won the Italian Grand Prix last September at Monza. Now for the bad news: there will only ever be three examples of this very limited edition, built by MSO (McLaren Special Operations) and sold through dealers in Melbourne and Sydney.

The party is here

A historic achievement. Yes, because the 2021 Monza Grand Prix gave McLaren a fantastic double win with its two drivers on the top steps of podium. The winner was Ricciardo followed by his teammate Lando Norris. To celebrate, McLaren created the 720S Daniel Ricciardo Edition. It's based on the standard 720S launched in 2017, with the M480T engine and a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 capable of delivering 720 hp and 770 Nm of torque. With a 0-100kph sprint of just 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 341kph, the power is kept on the ground thanks to the McLaren's dedicated P Zero tyre, featuring a special ‘racing' compound to maximise grip as well as a specific tread pattern to guarantee the best possible roadholding in all conditions.

A Formula 1 colour scheme

This very special car sports the iconic orange and blue livery that is synonymous with McLaren and its racing team. Each of the three cars wears the Papaya Spark colour scheme, which Bruce McLaren used on his very first single-seater racing cars, with details in Burton Blue (on the mirrors, side strakes, air intakes and bonnet). This echoes the colours of Ricciardo's  MCL35M Formula 1 single-seater, complete with the number 3 on the side of the car: the Australian's race number. Australian flags, black-painted rims and blue-finished brake callipers enrich the external look.

Racing across the other side of the world

Another detail that Ricciardo's fans will love is the Australian driver's signature on the sill. But unfortunately the three exclusive McLaren cars are all destined for the Australian market, so you're unlikely to see one around. However, the 720S Daniel Ricciardo Edition has already made its first public appearance at Albert Park in Melbourne, where the Australian Grand Prix takes place.
