Calendar

The Pirelli Calendar, also known as “The Cal”™, was the brainchild of Pirelli UK Limited, the Group’s British subsidiary, which worked on the project with ample leeway. In 1964 the Brits, looking for a marketing strategy to help Pirelli stand out from domestic competition, appointed the art director Derek Forsyth and British photographer Robert Freeman, famous for his portraits of the Beatles, to produce what was an entirely innovative project for its day.The result was a refined, exclusive product with artistic and cultural connotations that from the start set it apart from the world of fashion and glamour. For 50 years since then, “The Cal”™has continued to mark the passing of time with images by the most highly acclaimed photographers of the moment –capturing and interpreting contemporary culture and often setting new trends. From 1964 to 2021, atotal of 48 Pirelli Calendars have been produced by 37 photographers. The 48th edition, Pirelli Calendar 2022 -by the musician and photographer Bryan Adams was presented in November, 2021.

Annual Report

Pirelli has often talked about tyres and their world, focusing not only on their function, but also extrapolating them from their context, building stories and images capable of evoking other worlds, values, aspirations and dreams. This is how, over time, an apparently round and black object has developed a real “rubber soul”. Continuing in a tradition of 'lateral' storytelling, from 2010 to today even the Pirelli Annual Reports have undergone a transformation: from "simple" financial statements they have in fact become communication tools in a broader sense, able to illustrate a year of company history, using contribution of personalities from the world of art and culture at an international level. In the last decade, the figures in the financial statements have thus become part of a broader story that aims to capture the spirit and values of Pirelli by combining the typical contents of economic-financial reports with artistic expressions - from photos to drawings, from paintings to graffiti. - and copyrighted texts, all created ad hoc to tell the most intangible part of the company.

Hangar Bicocca

Pirelli HangarBicocca is a non-profit foundation, established in 2004, which has converted a former industrial plant in Milan into an institution for producing and promoting contemporary art. This dynamic center for experimentation and discovery covers 15,000 square meters, making it one of the largest contiguous exhibition spaces in Europe. It presents major solo shows every year by Italian and international artists, with each project conceived to work in close relation to the architecture of the complex, and explored in depth through a calendar of parallel events. Admission to the space and the shows is completely free of charge, and facilitators are on hand to help the public connect with the art. Since 2012, Vicente Todolí has been the foundation’s Artistic Director. The complex, which once housed a locomotive factory, includes an area for public services and educational activities, and three exhibition spaces whose original twentieth-century architectural features have been left clearly visible: Shed, Navate, and Cubo.
