This is why Pirelli was Development Partner of the new top-range car called to design tyres that could exalt the features of the model, as they have many times in the past with Pirelli OE (Original Equipment). The working base was the Pirelli P Zero Corsa, the benchmark when it comes to racing while guaranteeing total control. Characterised as always by the AR code on the sidewall, the P Zero Corsa created by Pirelli for the Giulia have an asymmetric tread, with a structure specifically designed by the engineers of the “Long P” first and foremost to guarantee traction and control in low and high speed manoeuvres. So, the team work focused above all on the rear axle tyres to increase grip on the tarmac as much as possible. The result is that the new Giulia can maintain excellent traction in all surface conditions on dry and wet roads alike. The work on the grooves was fundamental to maximise water displacement and prevent dangerous aquaplaning.
The development of the Pirelli P Zero Corsa for Alfa Romeo Giulia took ten months in close contact with Alfa Romeo engineers. The tests were performed mainly at the Pirelli facilities in Vizzola Ticino (near Varese) and on the FCA Proving Ground in Balocco (Vercelli). The result is a size 245/35ZR19 and 285/30ZR19 tyre set specifically designed to exalt the sportiness and control of the car. This no laughing matter since the car can reach a top speed of 307 km/h and spring from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds. All this power comes with the responsibility for managing a car having a kerb weight of 1524 kilograms, which is rather light for the category, resulting from the many technologies applied to create an aluminium structure and limit any waste. This extremely reactive and aggressive car never loses its grip with its specific tyres. Also during normal driving, tyre grip is fundamental when braking above all considering that the speed of the Giulia makes the presence of an emergency braking feature nearly mandatory and that this technology would be purposeless without valid equipment in the same class.
