Something unexpected. That's exactly how Pirelli arrived in Costanza's career - she feels right at home amid numbers and analysis. In Turin, after completing her scientific high school studies, she studied Business Economics, spent a year abroad, in Germany, in Tuebingen with the Erasmus programme, and then concluded her studies with a two-year course in Administration, Finance and Control at Bocconi University. “I have always been passionate about numbers: every number has a meaning, it constitutes a challenge, a problem. And we must be prepared to understand how to analyse it in order to improve.” Costanza wanted to use her analytical skills in consulting, but then she changed track.

How did you join Pirelli?

“During my master's degree I did an internship in a consulting firm, which ended with an offer of employment. However, during a career day at Bocconi University, I had the opportunity to meet Pirelli and left them a copy of my CV. After some time they contacted me for an internship. It was a surprise and I gladly accepted, so I changed track.”

What did you deal with?

“I joined as the Group Supply Chain Controller; my job was to control the supply chain from the factory to the end customer economically and financially. Our job as controllers is to support various departments in their daily job: together, we define increasingly challenging targets and objectives to maximise efficiencies, we report and explain the result, suggesting corrective actions where necessary, we conduct analyses and assessments on the market, always trying to anticipate the dynamics.”

How did your career continue?

“After just three years, Pirelli gave me the chance to seize an opportunity abroad, in the United States as a controller in the New York office. They needed someone who was familiar with the best practices at Headquarters who could take them to the region. I stayed here for two years, and then moved to Rome in Georgia, where Pirelli has a factory, to complete the experience from another perspective.”

Are you happy in Rome?

“It is a very educational experience, because I am immersed in the factory. I see where the product comes to be and I am in contact with a very technical environment. All this allows me to be closer to the business and to consolidate my technical skills, to experience everyday projects and challenges; I have the possibility to monitor market dynamics because we constantly relate with the commercial side and with customers”.

What has Pirelli given you?

“Pirelli has given me confidence right from the beginning when I was in an internship position, through to when I was posted abroad. I was prompted to give my best, surrounded by colleagues with different backgrounds, who are a continuous stimulus and who can teach me so much. You could say that Pirelli is one large family, and I have felt this both at the Headquarters in my relations with colleagues from local units and in various departments, as well as here in the North America region, in New York and Rome”.

What do you recommend to those who want to follow you in your footsteps?

“Have confidence in yourself, believe in it, and be humble, because the opportunities exist and companies want to invest in people: if you are good and work hard with the desire to do things, then you will succeed.”
