Burton upon Trent, August 14, 2012 – Pirelli’s GM6 gravel tyres provided double British rally champion David Llewellin with a winning advantage on Saturday’s Neath Valley Stages.

The annual one-day rally attracted a host of stars including four-time world rally champion Juha Kankkunen who was co-driven by former world rally navigator, Nicky Grist.

At the end of the six-stage event based in Rhondda Forest in southern Wales, Llewellin had carved out a winning margin of 56.7 seconds over Kankunnen – both at the wheel of a Ford Escort RS. James Potter finished third in another Escort RS, also equipped with Pirelli’s high-grip GM6 tyres.

Pirelli developed the GM6 tyre based on its highly-successful KM pattern. The tyre pattern is designed to bite through mud and grime to grip the solid road surface below, while the tyre blocks provide enhanced cornering stability.

Pirelli UK motorsport operations manager, Matthew Corby, commended the efforts of the crews on the tricky forest stages.

“David [Llewellin] did a fantastic job in Wales at the weekend, finishing nearly one minute clear of Juha who was driving a similar car,” explained Corby.

“The feedback from the Pirelli GM6 gravel tyres has been very posititve and the fantastic grip provided by our rubber has provided several drivers with a winning advantage on countless rallies that have taken place on British soil this year.”
