Performance Sport Tire Segment Overtakes Luxury Segment with Highest Customer Satisfaction

Pirelli scored highest in the Performance/Sport segment in this year’s Tire Satisfaction Index in the 2012 J.D. Power and Associates Original Equipment Tire Customer Satisfaction StudySM. Pirelli index score was 788 in the study, 40 points above the segment average of 748, an improvement over the 2010 result.

The study which is based on consumer-reported satisfaction with OE (original equipment) tires, measured Pirelli’s overall consumer satisfaction rates in one of the company’s most popular, and storied product segments – high and ultra-high performance (UHP) tires. Pirelli tires are fitted to high-performance vehicles such as Aston Martin, Bentley, BMW, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, Mercedes Benz, Pagani and Porsche, US manufacturers such as Ford, with its popular high-performance Mustang GT, and Chevrolet and its Camaro SS models, all rely on Pirelli tires to connect their vehicles to the road.

The 2012 Original Equipment Tire Customer Satisfaction Study is based on responses from nearly 27,000 new-vehicle owners who purchased a 2010 or 2011 model year vehicle. The study was fielded between October and December 2011.

For the first time since the redesign of the study in 2009, the performance sport tire segmentearned the highest satisfaction scores among the four segments included in the study. “This result is evidence that a combination of state of the art technology and design can result in high-performance tires that no longer sacrifice our consumer’s needs,” said Tom Gravalos, Pirelli Tire North America’s Vice-President of Marketing, Motorsports and Original Equipment. “Our scientific advancements have eliminated compromises in performance, comfort, acceleration, braking and handling in wet and dry conditions.”
