The tyre with the apps inside

From the PNCS, the “sponge” which reduces noise inside the passenger compartment, to the system which allows the car to continue to be driven even in the event of a puncture: the new P Zero is becoming ever-more technologically sophisticated in support of a completely safe and comfortable driving experience

Just like the latest smartphone model, the P Zero too can be bought in its “basic” version, or in its “enhanced” version, with additional technologies designed to cater even more precisely for the requirements of the most demanding motorists.
From the PNCS (Pirelli Noise Cancelling System) to the Run Flat and Seal Inside technologies: here are the “apps” which can be inserted into the new P Zero.

PNCS: the silencer for tyres
The “Pirelli Noise Cancelling System” technology allows the noise inside the tyre cavity to be reduced. This noise, in fact, which is caused by the vibrations released by the compression of the air during the crushing phase of the tyre, is transmitted from the tyre to the wheel hub, and from there, via the steering and the suspension systems, right inside the passenger compartment.
The system developed by Pirelli, which consists of a layer of polyurethane sponge placed inside the tyre carcass, allows these vibrations to be dampened and reduces the impact of their transmission to the passenger compartment. With the “Pirelli Noise Cancelling System” the noise level is reduced by 2-3 decibels, which is equivalent to halving the overall noise level, with a consequent notable improvement in driving comfort. The development tests carried out by Pirelli confirm that the use of this sponge does not alter the other characteristics of the tyre.

Run Flat: for a motorist this means safety
The Run Flat system uses innovative and reinforced compounds together with special “self-supporting” tyre walls capable of bearing the weight of the vehicle even when the tyre is not inflated, which allows it to continue to be used, even when running while flat, for around 80 km and at a top speed of 80 km/h in complete safety. In the event of a puncture, including at high speeds, Run Flat tyres maintain the correct stability and trajectory of the vehicle. This target of reliability is achieved also thanks to the Mirs (Modular Integrated Robotized System) manufacturing process which ensures a total homogeneity of the compound and an unprecedented level of product perfection.
Run Flat tyres must always be used in conjunction with a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) which provides the driver with an alarm system in real time in the event of loss of tyre pressure, thus providing total mastery of the situation and ensuring, at the same time, that it is possible to reach a service station where the problem can be dealt with.

Seal Inside: “no worries” even if there is a puncture
Seal Inside is a manufacturing technology which allows the motorist to continue driving without losing air from the tyre even in the event that it is pierced up to 4 mm. In these types of events, in fact, the rubber sealant, which is present inside the tyre, forms a protective sheath which wraps around the external body the moment it penetrates the rubber, thus preventing the air from escaping and consequent loss of tyre pressure. When the object is removed, the rubber sealant blocks the exit hole. The sealant is in turn covered by a unique film which ensures that it is protected even before the tyre is mounted on the wheel rim.
Seal Inside technology represents a further advantage for the consumer, guaranteeing improved safety and peace of mind: in this respect it is worth noting that around 85% of all accidental causes of loss of tyre pressure are attributable to piercing by external objects. Furthermore, this technology can be used on every type of vehicle and does not require specially adapted wheel rims or tyre pressure monitoring systems.
The two technologies, Run Flat and Seal Inside, are available to provide a different solution to the problem of extended mobility, ensuring that the driver no longer has to stop when a tyre is punctured.
