Pirelli P Zero enhances the electric power of the new Hyundai IONIQ 6 N

Home Road Cars Supercars Pirelli P Zero enhances the electric power of the new Hyundai IONIQ 6 N

Pirelli has developed a tailor-made version of the new P Zero for the Hyundai IONIQ 6 N, the N brand's second high-performance electric model, which made its world début at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2025. Available in size 275/35 R20, the new tyre meets the dynamic requirements of the car, which, with its 650 PS, accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 3.2 seconds. It offers grip, cornering stability, and precise response, both on the road and on the track.

Following the successful partnership between Pirelli and Hyundai on the IONIQ 5 N — which, with its thrilling performance, set a new standard for electric track driving — the Hyundai N has once again relied on the technology from the Bicocca-based company, which is also the exclusive supplier for this model. The specific fitment dedicated to the new IONIQ 6 N was developed starting from the fifth and most recent generation of the P Zero, the Ultra High Performance tyre par excellence.

In developing this P Zero, Pirelli engineers paid particular attention to driving dynamics — and the specific challenges of electric cars, such as high weight and instant torque — meticulously refining every detail, starting from the tread pattern. To improve traction and stability and ensure excellent grip on various surfaces, the  groove depth and the dimensions of the tread blocks were optimised. To promote reactive and controlled driving even in a drift situation, the  tyre's rigidity  was carefully designed and tested, both on the track and on the road.

Thanks to the use of virtual development and simulation tools, the P Zero was designed by Pirelli in partnership with the Hyundai N and subsequently subjected to rigorous tests on the Nürburgring circuit in Germany and the Namyang circuit in Korea, to evaluate its performance and consistency in various driving conditions.

The new product features specialties like Elect, a package of technological solutions developed by Pirelli for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. To support the mass of the battery vehicle and the instantaneous torque typical of an electric motor, the tyre was manufactured with a structure and materials capable of withstanding such stresses, responding with greater reactivity and proving more durable. In addition to the Elect marking, the PNCS logo is present on the tyre's sidewall, identifying the Pirelli Noise Cancelling System technology. This system reduces rolling noise inside the passenger compartment thanks to a special sound-absorbing material applied to the inside of the tyre – a crucial aspect for acoustic comfort in an electric car. Finally, the “HN” marking which stands for ‘Hyundai N' indicates that this P Zero is the result of Pirelli's Perfect Fit strategy: products custom-designed to meet the specific needs of individual models from premium and prestige automotive manufacturers.
