Moving quickly, with a low environmental impact and in a healthier way in cities are the factors that are making more and more people choose bicycles and e-bikes. The new Pirelli Angel Urban range of tyres is dedicated to this new idea of mobility, capitalising on decades of Pirelli experience and technological leadership in the motorcycle world.

FROM MOTORCYCLES TO BICYCLES

Recently presented at Eurobike, the international bicycle fair in Frankfurt, Pirelli Angel Urban is dedicated to new e-mobility and carries the great experience Pirelli in the tyres world for motorcycles, particularly motorbikes and scooters across to cycling. The latest generation of e-bikes is increasingly more powerful, much faster than traditional bicycles and with features, including dynamics and chassis, that resemble motorbikes more than ever.

The name of the new tyre range immediately recalls this strong connection.  Angel is also one of Pirelli's most recognised tyre lines for motorbikes and scooters. The connection is also evident in the similarity of the tread patterns and tyre profile of the various Angel solutions offered to modern bicycles.

THREE MODELS FOR THREE DIFFERENT USES

Pirelli Angel Urban offers three different tyre models dedicated to urban travel, travel and trekking.

Angel GT Urban is dedicated to urban cyclists seeking manoeuvrability, grip and speed. It is for cyclists who, with their e-bike or, more likely, Speed-Pedelec, move mainly in the city, but do not disdain the occasional outing in the countryside. The tread with sparse, well-spaced grooves is derived from Pirelli's patented design of the famous Angel GT motorsport. It offers dynamism and responsiveness even in wet conditions and great puncture resistance.

Angel DT Urban is geared towards pure urban cyclists, who are looking for reliability and responsiveness from the bike tyre, in all weather conditions, on any surface and in any city circumstances. With a siped tread with all season characteristics, derived this time from the Angel Scooter, this tyre can cope with any city surface or barrier, from various road imperfections to tram tracks, and offers a very comfortable, agile and smooth ride.

Finally, the Angel XT Urban was created to explore the city limits and easy dirt trails, along riverbanks or for short bike rides, on-road and off-road alike. A true multi-purpose tyre in the best Pirelli tradition, Angel XT features a tread in the on/off category. Well sculpted, but suitable for long runs on asphalt, with a low-profile central belt and sidewalls with higher, more aggressive blocks for better grip when cornering on uneven surfaces. Carried across from the Pirelli MT60 RS motorbike tyre, this design offers road handling, comfort and grip, as well as great traction in light gravel or dirt conditions.

HIGH PUNCTURE PROTECTION

To reduce the risk of punctures, the new Angel Urban tyres have a new tread structure consisting of two different layers. A surface compound (PROcompound Urban) based on silica in contact with the asphalt and a thick reinforcing layer underneath, with a protective and puncture-proof function. The formulation of the former promotes great driving safety and grip. The reinforcement layer, called HyperBELT, with an average thickness of 5 mm, offers excellent puncture resistance. The protection prevents debris and external bodies from reaching the inner tube and, in addition to providing a physical barrier due to its considerable thickness, has a formulation designed to encapsulate sharp objects.

CERTIFIED TYRES WITH REFLECTIVE SIDE BANDS

The entire Angel Urban range complies with ECE-R75 certification meeting the specific European standards required for electric bicycles reaching speeds of 50 km/h (31 mph). All tyres are also equipped with reflective side bands, which meet the approval requirements of the European ECE-R88 standard.
