A long-term climate strategy, commitment to health and safety, and responsible management of the supply chain. Further, a commitment to the circular economy, ever more sustainable sourcing of raw materials, with technology and innovation at the service of sustainability. These are the main factors that in 2021 led to Pirelli being once again confirmed “Gold Class” in the context of the Sustainability Yearbook 2021 published by S&P Global.

Pirelli was the only company of the auto components sector, worldwide, to obtain the "Gold Class Distinction". The rankings are prepared each year based on the SAM Corporate Sustainability Assessment for the S&P Global Dow Jones Sustainability indices. In 2020, as already announced, Pirelli was confirmed world sector leader with a total score of 84 points compared with a sector average of 35.

The Report produced by S & P Global this year looked at 7,000 companies from 60 different industrial sectors. With over 200,000 documents examined, it reaches an important and encouraging conclusion: the number of companies that identify sustainability as a key pillar of their strategies continues to grow (last year the looked at 4,700 companies, almost 50% more than the previous year).

Marco Tronchetti Provera, Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of Pirelli, commented: “Pirelli’s confirmation as Gold Class in the Sustainability Yearbook 2021 underscores the central place occupied by sustainability in our company strategy and Pirelli’s ability to integrate a responsible approach into all its business activities creating value for Stakeholders”.

The recognition of S&P Global is an affirmation of Pirelli’s constant commitment to a sustainable future. The Company already boasts – as well as sector the leadership in the Dow Jones World and Europe indices – a top rating  in the CDP’s Climate A list in the area of climate change management and its CO2 emissions reduction targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), on the road to achieving carbon neutrality by 2030.
