The quality of living of a country is also measured by the health of its citizens. More in particular, the Rumanian health system is experiencing a continual improvement process in which offering services of quality in line with European standards is the priority.

Pirelli Tyres Romania kicked off a pilot project in December 2007 aimed at improving the quality of health services offered at the Slatina Hospital by sealing an agreement with the Niguarda Hospital of Milan to organise training courses for doctors and nurses.

Since December 2007, over 250 members of staff from various wards (including Emergency, Surgery, Intensive Care, Gynaecology, Oncology, Paediatrics, Radiology) have attended the training courses held by Italian medical personnel at the Emergency Hospital in Slatina and at the Niguarda Hospital in Milano. Over three hundred hours of training for healthcare personnel have been organised each year including a focus on cancer prevention campaigns (in particular breast and womb cancer) and surgery at the Slatina Hospital for the first time.

The team of Italian specialists, coordinated by Chief of the Niguarda Hospital Trauma Unit, Dr. Osvaldo Chiara, has reached major results during the nine years of collaboration with Rumanian doctors and contributed to a health system which today in Slatina is better than the national average with regards to service quality.

In addition to the training project for Slatina Hospital medical personnel, over the past years Pirelli Romania has also contributed to purchasing emergency medicine equipment.

The collaboration agreement has been renewed every three years since December 2007.
Pirelli has invested over 1.5 million Euro in the project that will change the health system for the over 80,000 people who live in Slatina.
