Born in Treviso in 1941.

Gilberto Benetton is the man behind the family’s diversification in the retail, infrastructure and property sectors over the past 20 years, after having launched the activity of the Benetton Group, a leading name in the fashion sector, with his brothers Luciano and Carlo and his sister Giuliana in 1965.

He is Chairman of Edizione Srl, the Benetton family’s finance company, Chairman of Autogrill and a Director of World Duty Free and the Atlantia Group. He is a Director of Mediobanca, of whose Supervisory Board he had already been a member since 2007. He is also a Director of Pirelli.

Edizione Srl is active mainly in the retail sector with holdings in the Benetton Group, Autogrill and World Duty Free, while it operates in the sector of infrastructures and mobility services through the subsidiary Sintonia SpA, with holdings in Atlantia-Autostrade per l’Italia, Gemina – Aeroporti di Roma. Edizione also has a presence in the property, agricultural, hotel and sports sectors, as well as having portfolio holdings in Mediobanca, Assicurazioni Generali, RCS and Pirelli.

The parent company has the aim of aiding the expansion projects of its subsidiaries and strengthening its presence in its specialist sectors through the acquisition of new holdings in Italy and abroad, adding value to the capital of international relations acquired over the years.

A keen sportsman, Gilberto promotes the Group’s many sporting activities, particularly in the youth sector, social activities and professional rugby. Through the Fondazione Benetton he has created La Ghirada, an authentic sports citadel in Treviso, open to all enthusiasts since 1982. Since 1988 he has been Chairman of Verde Sport, the company that runs the multipurpose centre of La Ghirada and organises its many activities aimed at young people and the local area; and the Asolo Golf Club, which is one of the most prestigious in Europe.
