June 25, 2013 – Dealers who attended a recent Pirelli Performance Centre (PPC) meeting were treated to a tour of the McLaren Technology Centre as well as being given high speed passenger rides in a MP4-12C: McLaren’s sports car which uses Pirelli P Zero tyres as original equipment.

Pirelli Performance Centres are a club of audited, high-quality, high-performance tyre dealerships which were originally set up by Pirelli to confidently direct owners of high performance cars to outlets best suited to their needs. The number of PPC dealerships has steadily grown over the past 18 months and the total number of branches in the UK and Ireland now stands at 90.

Italian tyre firm Pirelli regularly arranges PPC meetings for its representatives, with the most recent gathering held at St George’s Park: the new home of the English Football Association’s national football centre.

The latest meeting was run over two days and the PPC representatives first met at Gorse Hill hotel near Woking. The event was well represented by the various PPC centres across the UK and they were informed on Pirelli’s latest retail standards, technical audits and marketing initiatives. There was also a product and training presentation which focused on new products such as the P Zero Nero GT and Pirelli’s eLearning platform.

The following day, the PPC members were given a comprehensive tour of the McLaren Technology Centre which included a visit to the historical collection of vehicles from the McLaren Formula One team. Everyone also got the chance to see the F1 race team area and the McLaren automotive factory where the McLaren road cars – which exclusively use Pirelli tyres as original equipment – are produced.

This was followed by a visit to Dunsfold track, the circuit used by automotive programme Top Gear, where the PPC dealers drove a McLaren MP4-12C with tuition from McLaren’s Formula One test driver, Oliver Turvey. The day culminated with some McLaren hot laps with Turvey behind the wheel.

Catherine Kirk, Trade & Consumer Marketing Manager at Pirelli UK said: “Our latest PPC meeting was a resounding success and was thoroughly enjoyed by the PPC members. These meetings are always a fantastic opportunity to get everyone under one roof to discuss the latest Pirelli initiatives and product updates. Our 90 PPC branches work exceptionally hard throughout the year and the visit to the McLaren Technology Centre was our way of rewarding everyone for their efforts. It was also a poignant time to visit McLaren, as 2013 marks the company’s 50th anniversary, so I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at McLaren for organising such a fantastic trip and on behalf of Pirelli, we wish them all the best for the future.”
