Pirelli was part of another Ridler award victory once again, with P Zero tires equipping Billy Thomas’s 1939 Oldsmobile convertible by Customs & Hot Rods of Anice, capping off a great presence at the 2016 Autorama show. Pirelli has been involved in the last 4 out of 6 Ridler award winning entries.
The winning 1939 Oldsmobile build featured a V8 Engine and Bowler Performance transmission. The impressive modifications included one-off gauges and wheels, RideTech suspension system, Art Morrison Enterprise chassis and custom blend paint job. The P Zero tires used to finish were 265/30/20 and 335/30/20.
“Our high-quality product portfolio gives customizers total freedom…whatever build or creation they dream up, we have a product to match,” said Rafael Navarro, Senior VP of Media Relations, Motorsport & Prestige Activation for PTNA.
“We chose Pirelli tires because we know they are the best of the best. We knew we were going to Detroit and that’s what it takes to win a Ridler,” said Levi Green, the lead fabricator from Customs & Hot Rods Anice in Austin, Texas.
The Ridler award is the most coveted prize at Autorama, America’s Premier Custom Show Car Series, since its inception in 1963. Named in honor of Don Ridler, a professional promoter for Autorama, the Ridler Award recognizes innovation in the area of vehicle builds being shown for the first time, with the top awards going to those who showcase the very best in creativity, engineering and workmanship. The vehicle must also prove to be minimally operable.
Every year the Ridler award attracts thousands of entries, which are then narrowed down to the top eight contenders, known as the ‘Pirelli Tire Great 8’. All Pirelli Tire Great 8 contenders receive a cash prize of $1,000, with the ultimate Ridler winner receiving a $10,000 cash prize.
