PIRELLI AND McLaren:
AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY PARTNERS
FROM RACE TO ROAD

The partnership between McLaren and Pirelli is the natural consequence of their extensive experience on the racetrack. One result of the close collaboration between McLaren’s designers and Pirelli’s engineers are the tires developed during the vehicle design phase to support the performance of the McLaren MP4-12C, the high-performance Gran Turismo model developed by the Woking-based manufacturer in 2010. Once again, the test bench offered by competitive racing provided the perfect starting point for the design of the custom tires for the McLaren P1 supercar released in 2013 which, just like the latest generation of single-seater Formula 1 cars, is powered by a hybrid motor characterised by strong peaks in torque values from the electrical component. The partnership between Pirelli and McLaren continued with the development of the 2015 range, expanded significantly with the arrival of the less niche but no less exciting new British-made coupés and spiders: the 570S, 540C and 570GT, characterised by the exclusive, customized construction (MC is the trademark used to distinguish Pirelli tires made specifically for McLaren cars) of the latest generation P-Zero tires, which are further enhanced by the Pirelli Noise Cancelling System technology for improved acoustic comfort. Go beyond every limit to surpass oneself: this is the spirit that led McLaren and Pirelli to create their latest supercar, a model which is lighter, more robust and faster than the previous Super Series cars: the McLaren 720S, launched at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2017.
