2008 Group Annual Financial report (including Group Sustainability Report)

2008 Group Annual Financial report Pdf version

Now in its fourth edition, the Pirelli Group's Sustainability Report is an expression of a corporate culture based on an integration of financial decisions with decisions of a more social and environmental nature using the "triple bottom line" approach. For this reason, the description of sustainability performance is included in the Group's Annual Financial Report, rather than being published separately.

On this regard Mr Tronchetti Provera, the Group Chairman, said, "The decision to include a section on sustainability within the financial statements is an indication of the high priority of this topic and, at the same time, should encourage us to operate in a way that will satisfy all the stakeholders, based on healthy, lasting growth. "

The reporting perimeter of the Sustainability Report is thus the same as the one of the Group's consolidated Annual Financial Report.

The report has been drawn up according to the Sustainability Reporting Guidelines issued by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). The analysis of sustainable performance is based on a set of "Key Performance Indicators " (KPI), developed in accordance with the GRI indicators (updated to G3) and the principles of the Global Compact, while also taking account of data periodically monitored by the leading rating agencies for sustainable finance. The sections on economic and social dimensions have also drawn on the Reporting Standards issued by the Italian Sustainability Report Study Group (GBS - Gruppo di Studio per il Bilancio Sociale).

The content of the Sustainability Report focuses on the issues of greatest interest to the Group's Stakeholders, highlighting and explaining 2008 trends as compared with what was reported in prior years.
Qualitative and/or quantitative targets are specified in the paragraphs dedicated to each one of the Group's Stakeholders.

Data collection for the report is done using the CSR Data Management (CSR-DM) system developed by Pirelli. This system is one of the applications arising from the Pirelli Group's Sustainability Operating Procedure, which formalizes the full integration of sustainability indicators within the Group's reporting structure.

The Sustainability Report includes Summary Tables, which are designed to help readers to compare the issues discussed in the report with the international experience of the GRI and the Global Compact.
As the Sustainability Report is fully integrated in the Annual Financial Report, Summary tables both refer to the contents of sustainability report and to the contents of other sections of the Annual Financial Report.
For example the Tables refer to the Section "Directors' Report" for the indicators regarding Corporate Identity and Group organisation.

An outside, independent organisation has audited both the Pirelli Group Sustainability Report and the Pirelli & C. Real Estate SpA Sustainability Report, in order to certify the completeness and accuracy of the qualitative and quantitative information reported in it.

Pirelli thanks its Stakeholders in advance for their precious feedback.
