22/07/2008 - The value of CSR to the 'Pirelliani':   the actions undertaken over the last year following the results that emerged from the summer 2007 CSR survey will be made known in a few days with posters by all Group Affiliates

Officially launched a year ago, the project of the diffusion of CSR culture within the Pirelli Group saw in this survey a fundamental instrument for the design and development of initiatives of improvement of aspects of social relevance.

Employees were asked to express their opinions and give suggestions for improvement on a series of "sustainability" subjects which were considered among the more interesting. On the basis of the opinions expressed and the criticism that emerged, each country has developed a plan of action, communicating what has been done and what it is intended to do in coming months.

10/07/2008 - Italian Ministry for the Environment and Pirelli: an Italian product for Beijing buses - Beijing.
The Italian Ministry for the Environment signed an agreement with the Municipality of Beijing to launch a pilot project in the Chinese capital for testing particulate filter technology developed by Pirelli Eco Technology, able to reduce by more than 95% particulate emissions from diesel engines.

The agreement, signed today in Beijing by Shi Hanmin, Director of the Environmental Protection Bureau of Beijing and Corrado Clini, Director General of the Italian Ministry for the Environment, in the presence of Marco Tronchetti Provera, Chairman of the Pirelli Group, calls for installation of Pirelli filter systems on heavy duty vehicles (mainly buses, but also trucks and later snowploughs and tractors) used by the local public transportation company. The first filter systems will be installed before the start of the Olympics, and the rest after the Summer.

This project is part of a wider Sino-Italian Collaboration Program for Environmental Protection - begun in 2000 - which has realized more than 80 projects for elaboration and experimentation of advanced technology solutions for sustainable development in China.
07/07/2008 - 2008 Pirelli among the 100 World's Most Respected Companies' according to The Reputation Institute - New York.
Pirelli is among the 100 World's Most Respected Companies' according to the 2008 edition of The Global Pulse Project, edited by The Reputation Institute - New York.  The special ranking takes into account more than a thousand companies from 27 countries according to an index that measures the degree of trust, admiration, esteem and respect from the public. The annual survey interviews more than 30,000 consumers. The topline results of this study are published annually in Forbes.
19/06/2008 -Practice equality of gender in careers:  the "tool kit" was presented in Brussels
On Thursday 19 June the 'Practice equality of gender in careers' tool kit was presented in Brussels to the General Assembly of CSR Europe, written by Pirelli together with IBM Italy, L'Oreal, Telecom Italia, Poste Italiane, Roche Diagnostics and the Indesit Company.
The tool kit contains the best management practices of the diversity of gender, described in operative terms and made public in favour of companies that wish to extract operative ideas from the best practices in existence.
Drawing up this instrument took a year of work by the Equal Opportunity Laboratory, established in 2007 by Pirelli and the above mentioned companies at the Fondazione Sodalitas (www.sodalitas.it) on the occasion of the European Equal Opportunity year.
Pirelli participated in the laboratory by virtue of its adherence to the European Alliance for CSR, an initiative promoted by the European Commission to encourage the diffusion and exchange of the best practices of sustainability among companies.
12/06/2008 - The 'Diffusion of Italian Culture' project is presented
Favour the reciprocal knowledge of the Italian and Rumanian cultures is the objective of the 'Diffusion of Italian Culture' project in the Slatina area, which was presented on 12 June at the Pirelli factory in the presence and under the patronage of the Italian Ambassador to Bucharest, Daniele Mancini, the Mayor of Slatina, Darius Valcov, and the Head of the Modern Language Faculty of the University of Craiova, Gabriel Cosoveanu. A Pirelli Italian Library was also inaugurated on the same occasion and, for the moment, will only be available to employees, but with the prospect of it being open to the entire local community in the near future.
However, culture cannot be gathered from books alone, for which reason the second step in the project includes the creation of a cineforum for the projection of historic Italian films.
From September, employees will also have the opportunity of participating in Italian language courses to take place at the factory, with the cooperation of the University of Craiova.
The invaluable collaboration with the university will also result in new opportunities for young Rumanian graduates. Next September, five brilliant new graduates of the Craiova seat of learning will join the Pirelli Group. The introduction course for these talented young people includes a period of training in another European country in which there are Pirelli factories. In addition, Pirelli will help the most meritorious students of the University of Craiova to terminate their studies by making available nine scholarships.
06/06/2008 - Pirelli confirmed in the ASPI Eurozone® Index (Advanced Sustainable Performance Indices)
Following VIGEO's biennial revision of Index consituents, Pirelli is confirmed in the ASPI Eurozone® Index, which tracks the financial performance of 120 leading Eurozone sustainability performers (from the DJ EURO STOXXSM benchmark financial universe).
05/06/2008 - Pirelli confirmed in the FTSE4Good Sustainability Indexes
Pirelli is confirmed at both European and world levels in the latest six- monthly revision, both in the FTSE4Good Global Index and in the FTSE4Good Europe.
16/05/2008 - Aid for China
Pirelli is helping the people of Sichuan. Two days after the terrible earthquake that shook the central-western province of China, yesterday (14 May) Pirelli Tyre China joined the consortium of international aid with a contribution handed over directly to the People's Affairs Bureau, the local civil defence organisation, by Managing Director Carlo Cattaneo.
A concrete sign of solidarity in line with the commitment of social responsibility that distinguishes the activities of Pirelli in every country in which it operates.
A contribution of equal value was made by the Yinhe Group, the local Pirelli partner in the joint venture that has resulted in the construction of the two tyre factories at Yanzhou.
15/05/2008 - Diversity is a value
Pirelli has participated together with 17 other companies to the Job Meeting "Diversity at work", the first event organized in Italy devoted to the meeting between the work demand of protected categories and immigrants and the offer of job positions made available by companies focused and careful on Diversity Management policies.
Approximately 300 people, most with disabilities or foreign people, looking for a job, have participated to the event.
During this first Job Meeting focused on Diversity, the stand set up by Pirelli has met a huge success with the public. The most interesting applications collected by our HR managers were about one hundred.
09/05/2008 - The winner is … Pirelli Labs!
Today, the President of CNR (the National Council of Research), Luciano Maiani, presented the Masi Oscar for industrial innovation to Pirelli Labs, winner of the 2007 competition, having as its theme the 'application of nanotechnology'. The Labs won with their tuneable laser, one of the most innovative devices at a world level for the creation of a universal source in long distance optical fibre telecommunications systems, which is protected by no fewer than 14 international patents.
29/04/2008 - Pirelli publishes its third Sustainability Report
Sustainability Performance is included in the Group Annual Report 2007, as in previous years, according to the company's integrated approach to sustainability.
23/04/2008 - Pirelli-Polytechnic together in professorship
A new chair has been created at the Milan Polytechnic: Fundamental Chemicals of Tyre Technology and Chemical Engineering, the result of an agreement between the university and the Pirelli Group.
31/03/2008 - Stanford School of Business: visit of honour to Bicocca
Today at the Castello degli Arcimboldi in Milan, Marco Tronchetti Provera, Chairman of Pirelli & C. SpA, received a study group from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, the prestigious school of American management established in 1925 at the University of Stanford in California.
The 35 young doctorate candidates, accompanied by Professor Bruce McKern, conducted the interview on a number of subjects, including the values and strategies of the Pirelli Group. The opening theme was sustainability, which they probed through a question on the commitment of the company to growth in harmony with the surrounding environment.

Pirelli confirmed in the FTSE4Good Sustainability Indexes - both in the FTSE4Good Global Index and in the FTSE4Good Europe - following the March 2008 Semi-Annual index review.
05/03/2008 - Medics in the front line, from Slatina to Milan
The programme financed by Pirelli is under way at Milan's Niguarda Hospital to update Rumanian medical personnel. The first delegation of medical and paramedic personnel has arrived in Milan and the Niguarda Cà Grande Hospital in the Lombardy capital city from Slatina as part of a professional updating programme, financed by Pirelli.
Urgent surgery, anaesthesia and intensive therapy are the specialities of the four doctors and their eight assistants, who have been in full training at the Niguarda since last Monday morning, to learn diagnostic-therapeutic procedures in trauma cases. During the week, the Rumanian medical staff will alternate their theoretical training between the direct intervention of the casualty department, intensive therapy and urgent surgery together with the Niguarda doctors.
04/03/2008 - Pirelli and the European Alliance for CSR

Pirelli's participation in the European Alliance, formalized in 2007, is based on its 100% agreement with the competitive vision that generated the Alliance: that sustainability is not a mere accessory or an extra, but a strategic and competitive way of managing a company.
Pirelli's adherence to the CSR Alliance has been expressed so far through active participation in the laboratories for the Alliance, which for Italy are coordinated by the Sodalitas Foundation. In particular, the Equal Opportunity laboratory has already produced a toolkit containing best practices in managing gender diversity - including Pirelli's "Group Equal Opportunity" project. The Toolkit has been presented by Sodalitas at the third "Marketplace on CSR", in November 2007.
20/02/2008 - Pirelli declared "World Sustainability Leader" and "Gold Class Company
Pirelli declared both Leader of the 'Auto Parts and Tire' sector and Gold Class Company for its commitment to and the results it has achieved in the area of sustainability. This recognition comes from the SAM Group (Sustainable Asset Management), the world's leading company in the analysis of investments on the sustainability front, which presented the '2008 Sustainability Yearbook', produced in collaboration with PricewaterhouseCoopers, at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on 29 January.
