International Standards and Management Systems

In its application of the first principle of the Group Policy for Health, Safety, Environmental, and Social Responsibility, Pirelli has intense activity in the field of Management Systems, using these instruments to improve the quality, effectiveness and efficiency of its processes with a further reduction of impacts on the health of employees, on work safety conditions, and on the external environment.

ISO 9001
Since 1970 the Pirelli Group has had its own system of Quality Management which has been gradually introduced in all Pirelli plants. Since 1993, the Pirelli Group has acquired certification of that system according to the ISO 9001 standard. Currently 100% of Pirelli's plants are certified in conformity with the most recent edition of this standard.

ISO/TS 16949
Since 1970 the Pirelli Group has had its own system of Quality Management which has been gradually introduced in all Pirelli plants. ISO/IEC 17025
Since 1993, the Materials and Products and Outdoor Experimentation Lab of the Pirelli Group has had the Quality Management system and is accredited according to the ISO/IEC 17025 standard. That system is maintained in conformity with the standard in force.

ISO 14001
In 1998, an environmental management system was inaugurated that conformed to the ISO 14001 standard. Not only the manufacturing plants, but also the Pirelli Centre for scientifically assessing tyre-vehicle performances located in Vizzola Ticino (in Lombardy-Italy) is ISO 14001 certified. This certification is particularly important because the centre, covering an area of about 26 hectares, is set in Parco Lombardo in Valle del Ticino, forming part of UNESCO's so-called Mab (Man and Biosphere) areas: a group of 425 biosphere reserves spread across 95 countries worldwide.

OHSAS
In 2001, this management system approach was extended to the management of safety, with the OHSAS 18001 standard being progressively introduced to the group's operational units.

SA 8000
In 2004 the international standard SA 8000 was defined by Pirelli as its reference tool in order to estimate the Group's conduct consistency with the relevant CSR principles.
