Pirelli has been in the tyre manufacturing business for over a century. The Group constant attention to environmental issues, and its emphatic focus on product innovation, has led Pirelli to develop products and solutions on the cutting edge in the "green economy" in various sectors: from sustainable mobility, to eco-compatible building construction, and to renewable energy. In 2008 the incidence of the "green" component on Group revenues was 19% and is expected to rise to about 40% in 2011.
Tyre
Tyres represent the strategic asset of the group identified as Pirelli Tyre.
The manufacturing structure of the company consists of 23 plants in 12 countries throughout the world, and a commercial network that covers over 160 companies.
The turnover of 4.1 billion euros achieved in 2008 makes Pirelli the fifth largest tyre company in the world, and the leading company for high range products. The total revenues of Pirelli Tyre guarantee 88% of the total turnover of Pirelli & C, which totalled 4.7 billion euros for the same period.
The business of Pirelli Tyre consists of two main segments: Consumer (about 70% of total revenues) deals with tyres for motor vehicles, sports utility vehicles (SUVs), light commercial vehicles and motorbikes; and Industrial (about 30% of revenues), which means tyres for buses, heavy trucks, agricultural machinery and steelcord, the fundamental strengthening element for radial tyres. These businesses are in turn focussed on two different sales channels: replacements (76% of 2008 revenues), replacement tyres for vehicles already and on the road.original fit (24% 2008 revenues), directly focussed on manufacturers.

Real Estate
Pirelli RE is the leader in the Italian Real Estate sector and, at European level, is one of the main players with assets under management of 14.7 billions of euros (at the end of June 2009), mainly concentrated in Italy and Germany.

Broadband Solutions
Pirelli Broadband Solutions supplies innovative broadband access solutions for residential and professional users to telephone and internet operators. Created in 2005, the company has developed a range of products that support voice, data, video and added value service integration.
The Pirelli Broadband Solutions portfolio consists of three main product lines: residential and small business broadband access routers, IP set-top-boxes, "extenders" (products to create home broadband networks), solutions for fixed-mobile convergence and remote management platforms.
From Italy, Pirelli Broadband Solutions has followed the route of expansion abroad, with an initial focus on the rest of Europe and high potential markets such as South America, the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Middle East.
In 2008 the tournover of Pirelli Broadband solutions amounted to 125 euro million, the Ebit margin was of 3% and the net financial position was positive by 15 euro million.

Labs
Pirelli Labs is the Group's centre of technological excellence ,the "engine of innovation" underpinning all of Pirelli's industrial businesses. The Labs' researchers collaborate with tyre research and development centres in Italy and worldwide on new materials and new production processes.
They also undertake research in the fields of broadband access, the environment, and sustainable transport.
Pirelli Labs, based in the Bicocca area in Milan, works in collaboration with major universities in Italy and throughout the world.

Ambiente
Pirelli Ambiente operates in the renewable energy and sustainable development sector, supplying 100% green electricity obtained from photovoltaic.
In this area the company operates with Solar Utility, the 50/50 joint venture with Global Cleantech Capital.
Thanks to collaboration with Pirelli Labs, Pirelli Ambiente has developed a solar tracker with low visual impact, high wind resistance and reduced installation and maintenance costs. The company has also recently realized a photovoltaic concentrator, a highly innovative solar panel with reduced costs thanks to reduced use of silicon, greater efficiency per solar cell, and lower cost manufacturing processes.

Eco Technology
Pirelli Eco Technology is active in the production a wide range of latest generation Feelpure antiparticulate filters and of low environmental impact fuels (such as GecamTM white diesel).
The company holds proprietary technology called Feelpure, which is a filter system based on silicon carbide, which can reduce particulate emissions of diesel engines by more than 95%.
The Feelpure™ particulate filters produced in a factory in Arese (Milan) and in the new totally automated factory in Romania, permit to circulate freely in urban areas where vehicles with high polluting emissions are prohibited: it was the first in Italy to receive homologation, and is certified for access to limited traffic areas in Switzerland, the Netherlands, United Kingdom and currently undergoing homologation tests in Germany.
Recently Pirelli Eco Technology has obtained the homologation in China (Beijing).
Pirelli Eco Technology, last march signed a partnership with Swedish Diesel Particulate Filter specialist
GB Environment Consulting AB in order to access in Scandinavian, Finland and the Baltic markets.
