Born in Milan in 1931.
After graduation, in 1958 he started working, holding a position in the Central Technical Division of Italcementi, the family company founded in 1864,.
In 1983 he became General Manager and in 1984 Managing Director of Italcementi S.p.A., a company that, together with Ciment Français, is one of the most important cement groups worldwide.
In 1984 he became Chairman and Managing Director of Italmobiliare, (position he is still covering), the holding company that controls Italcementi and that holds a significant shareholding in the industrial, financial, banking and services field.
In 2004 he was appointed Chairman of Italcementi S.p.A..
In addition to the offices held in Italmobiliare Group, he is member of the Board of Directors of Allianz S.p.A., Mittel S.p.A. and Compagnie Monégasque de Banque.
He is member of the Council of Confindustria, of which he was Deputy Chairman from 1992 to 1996.
He is a member of the Executive Board of Assonime.
In 1977 he was awarded the title of "Grand'Ufficiale", in 1989 the title of "Cavaliere del Lavoro of the Italian Republic" and in 2004 the title of "Cavaliere dell'Ordine della Legion d'Onore".
Within the Pirelli Group he was a member of the Board of Directors of Pirelli S.p.A. from June 1990 to August 2003.
He is also Deputy Chairman of Fondazione Italcementi Cav. Lav. Carlo Pesenti and of Fincomind AG as well as member of the Board of Directors of Ciment Français S.A., Crédit Mobilier de Monaco, Finter Bank Zurich, Franco Tosi S.r.l., Immobiliare Albenza S.p.A. and Istituto Europeo di Oncologia S.r.l..
He holds the requirements provided by the Corporate Governance Code (Borsa Italiana) to be qualified as independent. |
