Born in Milan in 1940 He graduated in Economics and Business Administration at the university "Luigi Bocconi" of Milan in 1964. He worked within the Pirelli group in Italy and abroad, particularly in the United Kingdom. After ten years he moved to Metropolitana Milanese (the Milan Subway) to head the Planning Department. From 1980 through 1986 he managed enterprises both in the manufacturing and the real estate businesses as General Manager and Managing Director. From 1986 through 1993 he was Managing Director of Finanziaria Ernesto Breda S.p.A.. From 1993 through 2001 he was Chairman of Breda Costruzioni Ferroviarie S.p.A.. From April 1996 he was Chairman of Società Ferrovie Nord Milano S.p.A. of which he was also Managing Director from December 1996 through January 1998. From December 1996 he was Chairman and Managing Director of Ferrovie Nord Milano Esercizio S.p.A. through January 1998. From May 1998 through December 2000 he was Managing Director of Ansaldo Trasporti S.p.A. and Institore del Settore Trasporti della Finmeccanica S.p.A.. From May 2004 through April 2007 he was a member of the Board of Directors of Telecom Italia S.p.A.. From 2002 through 2006 he was a member of the Board of Directors of "Luigi Bocconi" University. He is the Chairman of Fondazione Fiera Milano (controlling shareholder of Gruppo Fiera Milano) and of TERNA S.p.A.. He is leader writer for some italian newspapers (Sole 24 Ore, Avvenire, La Nazione, Il Mattino) and he has published several of his scripts and lectures held at universities. He has been nominated Cavaliere del Lavoro della Repubblica Italiana. He is Chairman of the Fondazione Menotti Tettamanti and Deputy Chairman of the Fondazione Angelo e Maria Belloni as well as member of the Board of Directors of Caritas Ambrosiana. He holds the requirements provided by the Corporate Governance Code issued by the "Corporate Governance Committee" (Borsa Italiana) to be qualified as independent. |
