Born in Milano in 1931.

After graduation in 1958 he starts his activity in Italcementi, a family company founded in
1864, with a task in the Central Technical Division.

In 1983 he becomes General Manager and in 1984 Managing Director of Italcementi S.p.A., that together with Ciment Français formed one of the most important worldwide cement groups.

In 1984 he becomes Chairman and Managing Director of Italmobiliare, the holding company that in addition to the control of Italcementi holds a significant shareholding in the industrial, financial, banking division and of services.

In addition to the offices held in Italmobiliare Group, he is a member of the Boards of Directors of  RAS S.p.A., Mittel S.p.A. and Compagnie Monégasque de Banque.

He is a member of Giunta di Confindustria, and he was Deputy Chiarman from 1992 to 1996.

He is a member of Consiglio Direttivo of Assonime.

In 1977 he had been nominated Grand'Ufficiale and in 1989 Cavaliere del Lavoro. In 2004 he is nominated Cavaliere dell'Ordine della Legion d'Onore.

Within the Pirelli Group he has covered the position of Director of Pirelli S.p.A. from June 1990 to August 2003.

He holds the requirements contempleted by the Code of Conduct issued by the Committee for the Corporate Governance of Listed Companies to be qualified as indipendent.
