Born in Giarre (CT) in 1937.

Graduated in 1960 in Economia e Commercio at Bocconi University, Milan.

1960 – 1970: controller and Manager of development of La Centrale, Finanziaria Generale
– holding company operating mainly in the public services (communications and energy).

From1970 to 1980 - IFI- Investment Manager at IFI Group; from 1980 to 1985 Managing
Director of Finanziaria di Partecipazioni and from 1985 to 1993 president of IFINT (now
EXOR).

In 1993 he was chosen by Lazard to start the business in Italy and then nominated Managing Director until the acquisition by Lazard Italy in 1998 of the investment bank Vitale, Borghesi & Co..

In 1998 he is appointed Managing Director of UNIM, until 2000 and from 2000 to 2004
Chairman of General Electric Italia. From 2004 as of today Senior Advisor of General Electric Europe.

He is independent director, member of the Executive Committee and of the Committee for the Remuneration of Terna S.p.A. and Recordati S.p.A..

He has been Trustee of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and he is Trustee of the Johns Hopkins School for Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in Bologna.

From 1995 to 2006 he was Chairman of the Alumni Association, Bocconi University and member of the Board of Directors of Fondazione Donna Javotte Bocconi (entity that has founded the  Bocconi).

He holds the requirements contempleted by the Code of Conduct issued by the Committee for the Corporate Governance of Listed Companies to be qualified as indipendent.
