What does Development & Engineering mean at Pirelli Broadband Solutions?

The Development & Engineering function ensures proper implementation of the Product Life-Cycle process:

• plans and allocates resources for individual projects
• coordinates the development activities that involve several company functions
• monitors the development of various projects and redefines the allocation of resources according to priorities
• reports to company management on the program progress (costs and times)

It also manages development projects through:

• promotion of technologies and hardware, software, firmware, and testing skills
• development and realization of prototypes for the BBA and Photonics area
• technological scouting
• interface with the Product Management function for definition of product requirements.

COMPETENCE CENTER MANAGER

Co-ordinates and manages the team members during development activities, monitoring the assigned projects in the area (progress and related reporting), ensures maintenance of updated company know-how on all areas technologies.
Defines and validates the product in agreement with the product requirements, ensures support to operations during the industrialization and production phases.

PROJECT LEADER

Plans and manage projects, in collaboration with the involved department and functions, co-ordinating all the activities related to the execution and/or modification of the assigned project, in full compliance with the timing, costs, planned quality and profitability objectives.
Manages the technical and human resources assigned for the specific project.

SR HW ENGINEER

Implements HW circuit design for specific applications, working on units/boards based on electronic and/or optoelectronic components and devices, carries out hardware design using specific tools (CAD for schematics, layout).
Cooperates with foreign engineers for developing joint projects or receiving support for specific issues, helps developing and implementing HW tools and test procedures for manufacturing, designs, builds, debugs and testes laboratory prototypes.

SR FW ENGINEER

Analyzes, develops, integrates, debugs and tests firmware/software for specific applications, including embedded and real-time systems, using high level languages (such as C/C++) and operating systems (such as VxWorks and Linux) or assembler code.
Cooperates with foreign engineers for developing joint projects or receiving support for specific issues.
Helps developing and implementing FW tools and test procedures for manufacturing

SR SW ENGINEER

Analyzes, develops, integrates, debugs and testes software for specific applications, including databases, element and network managers, systems and software interfaces, using high level languages (such as C/C++, Oracle, Ingres, Visual Basic) and operating systems (such as Windows, VxWorks and Linux).
Cooperates with foreign engineers for developing joint projects or receiving support for specific issues.

SR DVT ENGINEER

Ensures the availability of know-how on testing methodologies in optical, HW/FW/SW and System Integration fields, performs product tests, standardising and improving those already in use, and developing new ones.
Improves testing and measurement methods, employing dedicated testing tools and environments.
Updates the company know-how on the evolution of international standards on testing, measurement, diagnosis and verification.
Supports the design laboratories in the identification and preparation of tests, interpreting their results, helps developing and implementing test tools and procedures for manufacturing.

SR MECHANICAL ENGINEER

Ensures the design and execution of mechanical parts, tools and packaging for optical/electronic components, devices and products.
Provides support to technology/research functions, helping the design team to match the specifications within the required timing, optimising process and costs.
Identifies new solutions or technologies in cooperation with other designers.
Drafts technical/functional product specifications, defines manufacturing processes and procedures related to the production and test of mechanical parts and assemblies.
Complies with norms, updates the know-how related to leading edge technologies and their evolution.
