This season will see Finnish rally driver, Jukka Korhonen, take on the British Rally Championship in a TEG Sport prepared Skoda Fabia R2 after being named as the 2012 Pirelli Star Driver.
After being nominated on the Pirelli International Rally, Korhonen was one of 6 Drivers invited to Rowrah Circuit to test their driving talent, pace note making skills, mechanical knowledge and media presence.
The judging panel included former British Rally Champions, Jimmy McRae and Gwyndaf Evans, World Rally Championship Co-driver Chris Patterson and Pirelli’s Senior Rally Tyre Engineer, Matteo Braga. After the two day selection process the judging panel were unanimous in their verdict, and the announcement was made two days later at the annual BRC Bash.
The British Rally Championship will move to a two wheel drive only championship in 2012 so Korhonen will be driving a brand new Skoda Fabia R2 prepared and run by TEG Sport.
The Pirelli Star Driver Scheme has been running since 2008 and sees an up and coming driver take the wheel of a fully funded car for the duration of a British Rally Championship season.
Previous Winners include:
