The series, now in its twelth year, is growing rapidly and, as well as playing host to many seasoned privateers, has become widely recognised as a training ground for touring car drivers of the future. In order to become sole tyre provider to the series, Pirelli has carefully selected four products from its motorsport development centre in Turkey, which will be used in the two classes within the Challenge; The John Cooper Works (JCW) and the Club.
The JCW class, which was introduced in 2010, is based on the R56 Mini Cooper S and has proven to be an extremely quick and reliable racing car. The Club car is based on the MINI Cooper and is uprated to 135bhp. All cars in this class have been converted to use the 6 speed Cooper S gearbox making them reliable and economic to run over a season.
To offer drivers ultimate grip and handling, the Mini Challenge asked Pirelli to provide the both JCW and Club class with both slick and wet options.
