Does anyone still think that Superbike is the poor sister of the MotoGp class? Go and see a race and then we’ll talk again. Originating in the United States as a championship reserved for bikes coming straight off the production lines, Superbike has deep roots entangled with the most important names of motorcycle sport of all times, from Fred Merkel, to Carl Fogarty, to the recently retired Troy Bayliss.
The Superbike world championship (for insiders WSBK, World Superbike Championship) today involves technical elements of great interest. Plus it offers the public a very high level of entertainment with events that are always exciting thanks to continuous overtaking.
Since 2004 Pirelli has been the official provider to the World Superbike Championship also for the Supersport, Superstock 1000 and Superstock 600 classes. The commitment of the Italian manufacturer has marked an important change with respect to the past, when the tyres used were, in practice, hand-made prototypes.
From a technical point of view this also led to an improvement in quality and performance given that the products are constantly developed involving the technicians and riders of the various teams.
