Last month, Pirelli joined the likes of Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger, and actors Annette Bening and Tom Hanks and architects Renzo Piano and Zoltan Pali in the inaugural celebration of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. Pirelli joins an impressive list of museum founding supporters who are leading the charge to build what will become the world’s leading movie museum and Hollywood’s home for film premieres, exhibitions and programming. The private event took place at the future home of the Museum – the legendary Wilshire May Company building in the heart of Los Angeles next to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) campus.
“The Academy Museum will celebrate the movie industry by sharing its heritage and future with people of all ages from around the world” says Bill Kramer, the Academy’s Managing Director of Development. “Pirelli has a deep commitment to excellence in design, photography, and film. We are delighted to have them join us as an active partner in this vital project.”
During the evening, architect Renzo Piano unveiled the Museum’s concept design and guests previewed some of the iconic artifacts that will be featured in the Museum—including Dorothy’s ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz, the Maltese Falcon, and the piano featured in Casablanca—along with high tech multi-media presentation of the Museum interactive and immersive exhibitions.
“We are proud to support the Academy in its efforts to preserve and celebrate motion pictures. The Pirelli brand is founded on excellence in design and innovation and to able join the journey that Renzo Piano so eloquently describes that he envisions for the facility is an honor,” commented Paolo Ferrari, Chairman and CEO of Pirelli’s NAFTA Region. “Mr. Piano recently collaborated with Pirelli on our facility in Settimo, which is the most efficient and technologically advanced of the Pirelli group in terms of product innovation, productive processes, attention to sustainability and the quality of the working environment. Partnering with the Academy is an opportunity that we look forward to being part of as we look to grow our footprint in North America.”
