Pirelli Facility Maintains High Standard of Performance

Recognitions for commitment and improvements to worker health and safety were announced today by the Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA) at its annual meeting in Washington D.C. RMA’s Safety and Health Improvement Program (SHIP), created in 1981, recognizes member companies that achieve or maintain significant enhancements in worker health and safety.

Forty-one RMA member facilities supplied data for the annual survey to determine the extent of workplace safety improvements, the same data provided to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics, which publishes injury and illness information on all industries. “Today’s awards are clear evidence of this industry’s commitment to worker safety,” said Charles Cannon, president and CEO of RMA.

Two categories of awards are presented to companies that demonstrate workplace safety improvements, which are measured by the incidence rate for lost workday cases.  The “Excellence” category is awarded to the facility that achieves an incidence rate 75% better than theaverage achieved by plants that provided data to RMA. Pirelli was recognized in this category. This marks the second consecutive year the Italian tire giant’s manufacturing facility at its North American Headquarters has achieved a level of “Excellence.

I want to congratulate Luca Frisiani and his team for their efforts in promoting and sustaining a safe facility and working environment as evidenced by the RMA’s SHIP Excellence Award,” said Paolo Ferrari, Chairman and CEO of Pirelli’s North American operation. “This has been done in the best tradition of the Pirelli Group’s commitment to corporate social responsibility.
