Pirelli expanded its supply contract with Ford Motor Company, fitting ultra-high-performance P Zero and P Zero Corsa System tires to Ford’s recently revealed 2012 Mustang Boss 302 and Boss 302 Laguna Seca (respectively). Ford’s application of Pirelli performance products for both Boss 302 variants speaks volumes as the new vehicle packages are the spiritual successors to Ford’s first Boss 302, introduced in 1969. The new Mustang Boss 302s have been distilled to their purest form – strengthened, lightened and refined to create a race car with a license plate.
The 2012 Mustang Boss 302 comes alive with 440 bhp and 380 lb ft of torque delivered from Ford’s new 5.0 liter V8 engine which features a host of upgrades over the stock 412 bhp mill that powers the Mustang GT. In addition to engine upgrades, Ford has modified the suspension, transmission, rear end and aesthetics to provide a truly unique package that requires advanced tire technologies, translating Boss 302’s power and precision into the ultimate race Mustang for the street.
The power of the Boss 302 and Boss 302 Laguna Seca is delivered to the ground via P Zero and P Zero Corsa System fitments (respectively). Boss 302’s 19-inch black alloy racing rims (9-inch front and 9.5 inch rear widths) are mounted with P Zero 255/40ZR19 front and P Zero 285/35ZR19 rear tires, while the race-bred Boss 302 Laguna Seca calls on P Zero Corsa 255/40ZR19 front (right and left fitment) and P Zero Corsa 285/35ZR19 rears (right and left fitment).
P Zero is the point of reference in the ultra-high-performance market. Technologically advanced, P Zero offers enthusiast drivers superior handling and braking performance on both dry and wet surfaces thanks to its high-grip compound and nano-composites.
The P Zero Corsa System tires fitted to the Boss 302 Laguna Seca have been developed specifically for powerful supercars and enthusiasts who often take their car to the track to experience 100% of its performance. These tires satisfy even the most demanding customers in terms of dry handling, noise performance and maximized contact patch with the road surface.
“Ford’s decision to fit Pirelli UHP tires to the Boss 302 is an honor,” said Tom Gravalos, Pirelli Tire North America’s Vice-President of Motorsports, Marketing and Original Equipment. “Pirelli’s commitment to total performance is key in our position as the reference product for high performance vehicles on both road and track. Our heritage of over 100 years of motorsport victories, world-class R&D and leadership in technological innovation in the HP and UHP segments underscore our position as the tire of choice for OEMs seeking penultimate performance for their vehicles.”
