THE WAY WE STUDY
3 Months THE TIME DEVOTED TO DESIGNING ON PAPER THE CHARACTERISTICS THAT A PARTICULAR TIRE SHOULD HAVE

It’s a matter of personality.
There are cars that are seen as elegant, with classy movements. There are others that are exciting, and stand out. There are cars with an unplugged rock-and-roll spirit. Each one has sophisticated electronic equipment that demands a fully compatible tire.
For a long time, motoring has gone through a purely mechanical stage, which we could call "1.0". Now, with ABS, ESP, integrated differential control, and the various other components affecting driving dynamics, cars need tires that can respond perfectly to the electronic control systems of each and every model.
This requires plenty of careful preparation. Behind the creation of new tires is an understanding of the dynamic and electronic "personality" of the car, together with the requirements of the manufacturer.
This first design phase lasts two or three months, and it is from this point that Pirelli begins to make the most of the particular characteristics of each car. For example, to ensure a supremely quiet ride on certain models, avoiding those troublesome vibrations caused by resonance between the chassis and tire, Pirelli works on the footprint of the tread pattern.
Small details, like a change in tone produced by the tires on the road, can make the difference between a good trip and a perfect one.
