THE TIRES WILL BE DEVELOPED AT PIRELLI’S RESEARCH CENTRE IN
MILAN AND PRODUCED AT THE IZMIT FACTORY IN TURKEY, WHERE
PIRELLI’S OTHER COMPETITION TIRES ARE CURRENTLY MADE

THE FORMULA ONE PROJECT HAS NO IMPACT ON PIRELLI’S EXISTING
FINANCIAL STRATEGY
Milan, 24 June 2010 – The chairman of the Pirelli Group, Marco Tronchetti Provera, and Pirelli Tire’s managing director, Francesco Gori, today presented to the media the company’s plans for supplying tires to Formula One for the three-year period between 2011-2013.

The company’s program includes the creation of a dedicated team for the development and production of Formula One tires. The Team of internal Pirelli human resources will be made up of engineers and researchers who have accumulated experience at the highest levels of motorsport: creating winning products for rallying, Superbike, the Rolex Sports Car Series in North America and GT racing, as well as various one-make series. This ensures that the other divisions of the company remain focused on the ongoing business.

In order to meet the Formula One teams’ requirements in terms of reliability, safety and performance, Pirelli’s engineers are already working on simulation models and tire compounds that will be most suited to the rigors of Grand Prix racing.

The Pirelli Formula One team will be an international group of people based in Milan, the home of Pirelli Tire’s research and development department. This division has traditionally been at the heart of Pirelli’s cutting-edge technology and is formed of 1000 research engineers, working in five development centers all over the world. Pirelli Tire allocates each year between 3 and 4% of its revenues, the highest level in the tire industry worldwide, to research. Motorsport activities have benefited for many years from the innovations introduced to high-performance tires by Pirelli’s Research and Development.

The Formula One tires will be produced in the motorsport department of Pirelli’s Izmit factory in Turkey, which is entirely dedicated to competition tires.

As established by the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile), the Pirelli Formula 1 supply agreement includes development of six different types of tire for the whole season. Four of these will be slick tires – with different compounds to suit various dry asphalt surfaces – and one will be a rain tire, for heavy precipitation. Finally there will be an intermediate tire, for damp conditions and light rain.

In co-operation with the teams, Pirelli is also ready to develop technical evolutions to the current tires for the future, regarding in particular the wheel size.

Today’s economic climate has enforced a realistic and collaborative approach to share out the production and logistical costs associated with supplying tires to Formula One teams fairly. Pirelli will also invest in communications activities to leverage the technological and production values associated with Formula One, utilizing resources and budget that have already been set aside for this specific purpose. Formula One will become an important showcase for the Pirelli brand along with its commercial and industrial growth, without impacting on the company’s existing financial strategy in any way.

In the coming years, Formula One is expected to attract around two billion television viewers per season, with important media coverage in emerging markets as well. Pirelli’s business development and growth strategy, which is concentrated in these areas, will benefit hugely from the global visibility offered by Formula One, helping to promote the brand and maximize return on the marketing investment.

The Italian tire firm will supply all the Formula One teams from 2011-2013 with six types of tire: four for dry weather, one for rain and one intermediate.

Pirelli – which has supplied tires exclusively for the GP3 championship this year – will also supply the GP2 championship from 2011, becoming the sole provider of tires for the most prestigious single-seater championships in global motorsport.

The Milan-based firm is already present in the World Rally Championship, the World Superbike Championship, the Rolex Sports Car Series in North America, the Motocross World Championship and several other national championships for both cars and bikes.

Pirelli will supply tires to the Formula One World Championship for a three-year period between 2011 and 2013.

The FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile), the Teams, represented by FOTA (the Formula One Teams Association), and Formula One’s organizing body, represented by FOM (Formula One Management) have chosen Pirelli as their exclusive supplier, based on the specific proposals from the Italian company to guarantee technical and operational stability to the competitors.
Following current Formula One regulations laid down by world motorsport’s governing body, the FIA, the new contract ensures that Pirelli will provide teams with six different types of tire for the season: four slicks, with different compounds for various types of dry surfaces, one rain tire for heavy rain, and one intermediate tire for damp conditions or light rain.

The current economic climate has led to a realistic and collaborative approach with all the teams, ensuring that manufacturing and logistical costs are shared fairly.

Pirelli’s return to Formula One also has a firm eye on the future, with full collaboration with all teams. Research into innovative new tire developments is a vital part of this exciting program.

Pirelli is also proud to announce that it will supply the GP2 World Series – the
acknowledged stepping-stone to Formula One – for the three-year period between 2011- 2013.
Pirelli’s latest participation at the highest levels of single-seater racing make a welcome addition to the celebrated Italian firm’s other motorsport activities including, from this year, a tire supply agreement for the inaugural GP3 series. Pirelli will consequently become the single supplier to all the most prestigious racing championships in the world from 2011.

Pirelli is planning to make important investments in corporate communications, in order to make the most of the high profile and cutting-edge technology that go hand in hand with supplying Formula One, using resources and budget that has already been set aside for this purpose.

This communications campaign will principally help to support Pirelli’s increasing profile in emerging markets: Latin America, the Middle East and Asia Pacific, which are all areas frequently visted by Formula One racing.

Consequently Formula One will become a vital calling card for the Pirelli brand, helping its commercial and industrial expansion without disrupting the company’s long-term financial strategy.

The global visibility guaranteed through extensive media interest in Formula One, together with dynamic plans to leverage Pirelli’s involvement in an activity central to the company’s core business, represents a unique opportunity for the brand to maximize its return on investment.

This new Formula One agreement crowns Pirelli’s historic involvement in world
motorsport, which dates back to 1907 when the Italian firm won the epic Paris-Peking road race. Pirelli is currently the exclusive supplier to some of the most important World Championships for both cars and bikes, such as the GP3 series, the World Rally Championship, the Rolex Sports Car Series in North America, the World Superbike Championship, and the Motocross World Championship. On top of this, Pirelli also supplies more than 70 other national and international championships. The last Grand Prix victory claimed by Pirelli was the 1991 Canadian Grand Prix, with Nelson Piquet driving for Benetton.

Pirelli will be available to provide further details on the tire supply agreement tomorrow, 24 June 2010, at 2.30 p.m. CEST during a conference call, in which the Chairman of Pirelli & C., Marco Tronchetti Provera, and the CEO of Pirelli Tire, Francesco Gori, will intervene. Journalists will be able to participate by telephone, with the possibility to ask questions, by calling the number: +39 06 3348 5042 or +39 06 3348 6868 or +39 06 33168 and then dialing *0 . (Emergency line for problems to connect: +39 06 334844 or +39 06 33444 551). The presentation will also be available via webcast – in real time – on the website www.pirelli.com in the Media – Press Area section.

A spin from Bertolini after half an hour of racing puts an end to the hopes of the # 11 Playteam Maserati, running on Pirelli tires. Shortly beforehand, a misunderstanding between Pier Guidi in the other P Zero Racing-equipped Maserati and Davies in the Aston Martin-Pirelli resulted in contact that eliminated both of them. In GT2, the Porsche-Pirelli driven by Collard – which was also in the hunt for the category’s drivers’ title – was unable to make the most of its chances and finished fourth.

Following the positive results obtained from the final part of the season, Pirelli heads to the Belgian circuit of Zolder in the hope of securing two 2007 FIA GT drivers’ titles – both in the GT1 class and also in the less powerful GT2 category.

The Playteam Sarafree Maserati MC12 equipped with PZero Racing tires and driven by Bertolini-Piccini comes to Belgium with a good chance of lifting the GT1 drivers’ title. The two Italian drivers will benefit from tried and trusted Pirelli rubber for this showdown, which has been specifically developed for their car, and which has proved its worth over the last few hard-fought races.

Another combative race for the Italian number 11 Maserati crew puts them into the lead of the GT1 Championship. In GT2, an excellent race from the Edil Cris Ferrari 430 GTC gives Ruberti and Mediani third in the race, in front of the similar Scuderia Ecosse car of Mullen and Turner.

Pirelli has taken away a positive result from one of the most challenging rounds of the entire FIA GT Championship, with third and fourth places in GT2 as well as fourth and fifth places in GT1. More significantly though, Maserati drivers Bertolini and Piccini have taken the lead of the all-important drivers’ championship with a total of 47 points. The crew of the number 11 Maserati, running on PZero Racing tires, put in a superlative performance with just two races left to run in this year’s championship. The next race takes place in just a week’s time at the French circuit of Nogaro.

On a circuit that has never particularly favoured the Italian rubber, Bertolini and Piccini’s result was made all the more remarkable by the fact that their car was carrying 80 kilograms of ballast: a handicap accentuated by the twisty nature of the Czech track. Their team mates Giannocaro and Pier Giudi finished just behind them, underlining the strong performance of the PZero Racing tires used on the Playteam Sarafree Maserati MC12.

Andrea Bertolini, who put in his usual excellent performance even in difficult conditions like those at Brno praised: “the usual consistency of the Pirelli tires we had at our disposal for the race. The most crucial thing is though that our fourth place here has allowed us to take the lead of the championship. The next race is only in a week – and at Brno we will lose 20 kilograms of ballast. This is bound to make life a little easier for me and Piccini…”

In GT2 Paolo Ruberti drove brilliantly – together with Maurizio Mediani – in the Edil Cris Ferrari 430 GTC- Pirelli, which battled for second throughout the race. The duo only lost out to another Ferrari, driven by Ortelli and Bruni, in the closing stages. Ruberti and Mediani finished just ahead of another PZero Racing -equipped Ferrari 430 GTC: the Scuderia Ecosse car of Mullen and Turner, which had been second-fastest in qualifying.

Pirelli Technology Creates a New Generation of
K-Pressure
Second-Generation Tire Monitoring System Unveiled at Geneva Motor
Show

GENEVA, Switzerland, March 5, 2004 -Pirelli will unveil
the new, second generation of its K-Pressure safety system at the
74th Geneva Motor Show. A device for monitoring the pressure and
temperature of tires, K-Pressure is able to send data to a display
inside the car through sensors that transmit via a radio frequency.
In the case of an anomaly, a dashboard light and an acoustic alarm
will signal which wheel has the problem, enabling the motorist to
maintain a continuous check on his vehicle’s functions.

The first fundamental new feature of this latest generation
K-Pressure is that it is made entirely from Pirelli technology.
Developed using expertise generated by synergy with other Pirelli
Group companies, this new generation of K-Pressure is the first
step towards a pioneering evolutionary phase that will see the tire
increasingly integrated into the various vehicle management and
control systems.

The second fundamental new feature is that the sensors of the new
Pirelli K-Pressure are no longer fitted to the wheel, but adhere
directly to the inner surface of the tire (two Pirelli patents).
This facilitates the application of the device and makes for faster
fitment, reducing to almost zero the risk of damaging sensors
during the mounting and demounting of tires. The new system
provides more information on the tire to which it is directly
applied, including the level of the temperature in the area near
the tread. It can easily be seen how temperature measurement by
K-Pressure can be of maximum use, even to a new product design and
development center.

Because of the extremely low power consumption of the sensors,
another important characteristic of the new Pirelli K-Pressure to
modern motoring is its ability to function even when the vehicle is
standing still. If an anomaly in the tire’s pressure is discovered
when the car is not in motion, an alarm alerts the driver as soon
as the vehicle’s ignition is switched on and before the engine is
started. An additional safety feature.

All of these characteristics combine to define a system that is
extremely reliable and long-lasting-up to six years-and one that
has ample potential for further development, such as contact with
the outside environment, lower power usage and others. A system as
versatile in its many applications as the number of different
vehicles to which it can be fitted.

The Pirelli K-Pressure can also operate on 4-wheel-drive and on
vehicles critically in need of continuous rear tire pressure
monitoring. A special “remoter” is available for long trailertype
vehicles including some motor homes. The remoter permits the
acquisition of data from an area near the tire, and transmits the
information by Lin Bus to the central display of the towing
vehicle.

As it is no longer fitted to the rim but applied directly to the
tire, K-Pressure can be re-used. It can easily be removed at the
end of a tire’s life and applied to a new tire.

The system will go on sale next June through tire specialist
networks linked to Pirelli in Italy, Germany, Spain, France, Great
Britain, Holland and Belgium.

The K-Pressure being unveiled at Geneva represents a new step
forward in Pirelli’s project to transform tires from passive
components into intelligent systems, able to interact swiftly with
the overall vehicle control infrastructure.

But Pirelli’s activity in the area of intelligent tires does not
end with a TPMS- Tire Pressure Monitoring System-of which
K-Pressure is a part. The Group maintains continuous and productive
working relationships with leading research institutes, active in
the application of associated technology to the miniaturization of
components. Those organizations, which also use MEMS techniques,
include Pico Radio, Micro Sensori and others. Pirelli’s latest work
in this field is being carried out with the Berkeley Sensor and
Actuator Center and the DOP Center for Embedded Systems at the
University of California in Berkeley.

                  From MIRS&#8482 to the Eufori@ Run-Flat, from
the Scorpion Zero for the Record- Braking Dodge Ram SRT-10 Pickup
to the Fiat Trepiuno Concept Car, Great Ideas Are the Life Blood of
Pirelli

GENEVA, Switzerland, March 2, 2004 For 74 years
the Geneva International Motor Show has been the motoring
worlds most important shop window: a source of ideas and
perceptions that ensure the continual evolution of the car. The
same goes for the tire, the most essential component of the whole
automobile system.

For the Pirelli P Zero family of tires, 2004 is also the year in
which its production will be switched to the MIRS&#8482
automated process. This is a completely robotized and flexible
mini-factory, able to produce tires of completely innovative
characteristics in the areas of performance, reliability and
comfort. The MIRS&#8482 process is so unique it is difficult to
compare with the high-quality traditional process by which tires
are built.

Having begun its industrial life making the Eufori@ run-flat, which
is original equipment on the Mini, MIRS&#8482 technology has
been extended to the super-specialized PZero family destined for
the American market. From the MIRS&#8482 factory in Rome,
Georgia, come the all-season P Zero Nero M+S and the 22-inch
diameter Scorpion Zero Asimmetrico. The former is building
popularity for itself by its fitment as standard to the 2005
Mustang GT, the latter has become a must for the large, powerful
SUVs that symbolize our American way of motoring. One example that
represents them all is the 22-inch diameter Scorpion Zero mounted
on the Dodge Ram SRT-10. With its 10- cylinder Viper engine that
puts out 500 bhp and produces a top speed of more than 150 mph (241
km/h), the Ram is the fastest and most powerful pickup ever built.
For a rocket like that, the MIRS&#8482 robots in Rome, Georgia,
built and had homologated the biggest and fastest Scorpion Zero
ever constructed by Pirelli and they did so at record speed, due to
the reduced time to market afforded by the new technology. In size
305/40R22, this is the tire that recently took the Dodge Ram to a
new world record in its category for the flying kilometer, with a
speed of 154.587 mph (248.73 km/h) almost 7 mph faster than the
previous record.

And beginning next spring, MIRS&#8482 will begin to produce P
Zero and Scorpion Zero for the European market.

The MIRS&#8482 system’s first-born, the Pirelli Eufori@, has
among its fundamental characteristics a run-flat construction with
self-supporting sidewalls that enable the tire to function even at
zero pressure. The run-flat is one element of its technology that
Pirelli offers the auto industry in the area of so-called “total
mobility”. Another development – the result of collaboration with
Michelin – is the PAX System, a revolutionary tire concept with
asymmetric sidewalls and an internal anti-bead detachment
support.

Pirelli will be at Geneva with its PAX System in size 215-650R440A,
which has also been produced with MIRS&#8482 technology.

And then there are the concept tires, stylistic/functional,
tailor-made developments for those prototypes and styling exercises
that have always constituted one of the major points of interest at
the Geneva Motor Show. For the 2004 event, Pirellis
cooperation with styling centers is visible, starting with the
tires for the long awaited Fiat Trepiuno. Pirelli has designed
another two-tread pattern concept for one of the most famous
stylists in the world: Giugiaro. The tires conceived for the
Toyota-based Alessandro Volta and the Alfa Romeo-based Visconti,
are Pirelli. And among the other concept cars are the Mini Wagon
SUV by Castagna fitted with Pirelli Scorpion S/Ts and the Kite by
Fioravanti wearing Pirelli P Zero Neros.

               # # #

The same Monza Autodromo which closed the past GT season, will host
on March 4-5 the first track tests of the new season, and will also
give hospitality on March 27-28 to the first race of the FIA GT
Championship 2004. The development tests made over the winter have
given optimal sign to Pirelli, above all regarding Maserati. In
fact Pirelli Competizioni started 2004 with great news: the
technical development of the Maserati MC 12, the new racing car
destined to the FIA GT races and others endurance races like the
famous Le Mans 24 Hours.

After the thrilling end of the 2003 Championship, with the four
consecutive victories scored by Bertolini and De Simone at the
wheel of their Ferrari-Pirelli, and after the great victory of
Babini and Peter at Estoril with the debuting Ferrari 575-Pirelli,
the FIA GT Championship 2004 will be opened on the Italian
historical circuit and the surprises sure will not lack. Pirelli
Competizioni will support teams and drivers on the track, with
thousands of PZero Corsa tyres transported on circuits, is ready
for the new challenge, and more determined that ever.

As far as concerns Pirelli equipped GT teams and cars, a new
Italian team is announced: GPC Squadra Corse, that will present on
track the two dominators of Estoril 2003 event, the Pirelli-fitted
Ferrari 575 GTC. In the same GT category another team with Pirelli
tyres is expected to fight for the victory: Konrad Motorsport,
whose Saleen S-7R showed top performances in the latest 2003
races.
Regarding the new Maserati MC 12 PZero fitted, awaited in the GT
category for the second half of 2004, it is necessary to emphasize
the great development job carried out on car and tyres by the
Maserati Racing unit together with the Pirelli technicians. Every
part of the car has been put to hard test in order to obtain the
maximum performances also in terms of duration, not to forget the
strongest solicitations that the extraordinary performances of the
new car imposes. The lap times scored by Andrea Bertolini and Fabio
Babini on the Fiorano circuit and the thousands of kilometres
covered without particular inconvenient, allows to dream a huge
debut.

Taking a turn to N-GT category, Pirelli will be present with the
team GPC Squadra Corse and the Ferrari 360 Modena, an unbeatable
car in the final of the past season thanks also to the introduction
of the new compounds of the PZero tyres and to the new sequential
gearbox. The new teams of Pirelli Competizioni, the new PZero
tyres, already planned from the first race of the season, the new
circuits (China and Dubai in the U.A.E.) and above all the arrival
of the new Maserati MC 12 in late summer, will be the key points of
the 2004 Championship.
