PARTICULATE FILTER

Pirelli & C. Ambiente srl manufactures and sells diesel particulate filters (DPF) made out of porous silicon carbide for both light (passenger/commercial) and heavy-duty vehicles, serving the North American, Chinese and European automotive markets.

A diesel particulate filter is designed to remove suspended particulate matter (SPM) and soot from the exhaust gases of a diesel engine.

The most common filter types for diesel engines are SiC wall-flow monoliths, which are extrusions made from porous ceramic materials, since they provide high filtration efficiency and high refractory and mechanical properties and are able to trap a high amount of particulate matter. DPFs usually remove at least 90% of all particulate matter and, under certain conditions, can attain even higher levels of efficiency.
