Sustainability in Pirelli's history
With more than 130 years of industrial tradition and manufacturing experience with the most advanced technologies on an international scale, the Pirelli Group has made a considerable contribution - within the bounds of its abilities and business responsibilities - to the development of products, technologies and management instruments that promote sustainable industrial development, while always pro-actively interacting with the socio-cultural context in which it operated.
Proud of the results achieved so far, Pirelli wishes to respond promptly to the increasing need of communication and discloses the information regarding its sustainability commitment and the company's results in terms of sustainable performance, in light of the ever-growing attention paid by investors to socially responsible companies.

|"No Smoking Company" project |
In June of 2003, a letter from higher management to all CEOs announced the firm's decision to become a "No Smoking Company", in the interests of both smokers and non-smokers.
This decision, communicated to all employees, is part of Pirelli's policy of protecting the health of its workers in every country in which the group operates.
In many cases firms opted for an outright ban, in others appropriately equipped areas have been provided for smokers.
Specific training/didactic initiatives have also been set up to illustrate the damage caused by smoking.

Real Estate (a listed company on the telematic shares market of the Italian Stock Exchange) have set up a dedicated means of information specially for retail shareholders: the Shareholder's Manual , drawn up based on experience with best international practice, is a benchmark for listed companies in Italy interested in communicating directly with their shareholders.|
