PIRELLI FOR EDUCATION PAR EXCELLENCE

Pirelli Foundation LogoThe just created Association for Education of Excellence is a non-profit making organisation which has the task of “promoting and favouring education initiatives of excellence in relation to the needs and prospects of the world of work, research and business”.

Its first initiative is the establishment of the School of High Education for Management.

Convinced that, also in periods of crisis, it is necessary to invest in the future, the three foundations have decided to respond to the need for better education for the young with concrete initiatives, giving their backing to quality and openness to innovation. It is from that premise that the School of High Education for Management has been established, in collaboration with the Collège des Ingénieurs, one of the most authoritative European institutions in the field of management education.

The School of High Education for Management will be aimed at young graduates in engineering and in scientific and economics disciplines (15 the first year, 40 at full capacity) offering them a full-time Masters Degree in Business Administration based on four months of education in-hall and six months of action training in a company: the young people will join client companies as junior consultants and will work on projects of strategic interest.

The Masters Degree will be free of cost for course members, who will be selected exclusively on the basis of merit and preparation (not for income), who will be paid, as a result of a contractual engagement that will terminate at the end of the duration of the period of education: that distinguishes the initiative from other similar undertakings.
The start of the courses is scheduled for September 2009; in-hall education (in the English language) will take place in part together with lecturers and the students of the Collège des Ingénieurs in the offices of Paris, Stuttgart and San Gallo, in part in the offices in Turin with lecturers from the Italian polytechnics and universities and from the world of business.
Those who participated in the press presentation of the school were John Elkann, vice-president of the Giovanni Agnelli Foundation, Riccardo Garrone, president of the Edoardo Garrone Foundation, Antonio Calabrò, director of the Pirelli Foundation and Philippe Mahrer, president of the Association du Collège des Ingénieurs. Gustavo Bracco, head of the school, presented the fundamental principals of the initiative.

PIRELLI SPONSORS THE "CHINESE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP"

Celebration China LeagueTomorrow at the Hangai stadium in Zhengzhou, the whistle will blow to kick off the first Chinese Super League (CSL) sponsored by Pirelli, the soccer event with the biggest following in the country, with 150 million TV viewers last year and an average of 25,000 fans in the stands for each game.

Organised by the Chinese Football Federation (CFA), from this year and for the next three seasons Pirelli will be the league’s institutional sponsor as a result of a preliminary accord signed today by Giuseppe Cattaneo, managing director of Pirelli China, and Lv Feng of the CFL.

The objective is to further reinforce the image of the Group through sport, supporting Chinese football, accompanying its evolution and offering an international know-how through a collaboration activity. An initiative that confirms the strategy of a growing integration into the Chinese community and its social fabric.

Chairman of the Pirelli Group Marco Tronchetti Provera said, “China is one of the leading markets in the world economy. Sponsoring the CSL is a great opportunity for those, like us, who have an important industrial presence and relations with the local community, which have become increasingly deep-rooted and profound over time. The popularity of football and its power of aggregation makes it an ideal vehicle to contribute to enabling the Pirelli brand to enter Chinese homes”.

PIRELLI IN PARLIAMENT ON SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT

Pirelli in Parliament on safety and the environmentA Parliamentary audience yesterday for Chairman Marco Tronchetti Provera with the Transport Commission of the Camera dei Deputati, presided over by the Honourable Mario Valducci. The audience was part of a cycle of consultations by the representatives of the automotive sector of the Camera on the subjects of safety and the environment.

After an in-depth appraisal on the provisions of the Government for the support of the sector, the Chairman of Pirelli insisted on the need for a renewal of the tyre park in Italy in conformity with the European Union directive EU 201/43 CE: tyres of new generation, environmentally compatible and much more suited to the preservation of safety (roadholding and braking distances), eliminating tyres which are non-homologated, of greater pollution capability and unsafe.

In the view of Chairman Tronchetti Provera, it is fundamental that the competent authorities also control the roads for worn tyres: according to recent surveys by Inail and Assogomma, about four million vehicles are currently circulating on Italian roads with smooth, illegal and dangerous tyres. It is, naturally, necessary that there should be adequate sanctions.

In his audience, the Pirelli Chairman also insisted on the subject of anti-particulate filters to drastically reduce harmful emissions. The commission took note of the data and indications provided with lively interest, and assured the Chairman that there would be close examination of the subject and subsequent audiences.
