ANTI-PARTICULATE PIRELLI FILTERS IN LISBON AND PORTO

Anti-particulate filtersPirelli Eco Technology, the Pirelli Group subsidiary dedicated to technologies for lowering harmful emissions from diesel engines, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Portuguese Ministries of Transportation and the Environment to test Feelpure anti-particulate filters on the public transit vehicles of Lisbon and Porto.
The MoU was signed yesterday in Lisbon by the CEO Pirelli Eco Technology, Bruno Tronchetti Provera, by the Secretary of State of the Portuguese Ministry of the Environment, Humberto Rosa, and by the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Transportation, Ana Paula Vitorino. The agreement calls for two phases of testing Feelpure anti-particulate filters, capable of reducing particle emissions from diesel-powered vehicles by more than 90%, resulting in a significant improvement in air quality. The first phase involves testing on the public transit vehicles of Lisbon, the second on those of Porto.
Meanwhile, in China, the conclusion of the testing phase begun in mid-2008 has opened the door to homologation and eventual commercialization of Feelpure anti-particulate filters there, with a potential market for 145,000 filtering systems in the city of Beijing alone.

TOYOTA AWARDS PIRELLI

Toyota Awards PirelliPirelli Pneus Ltda achieved this month the Toyota recognition in both performance categories. Out of 110 suppliers the Company was granted with the Logistics and Quality Excellence performance awards in the 7th edition of the Mercosur Toyota Suppliers Conference.

During all over 2008, Pirelli conquered this position with the carmaker not only because of the products figures but also from the excellent services provided.

In Brazil, Pirelli Pneus Ltda has a long term relationship with Toyota, since the carmaker started the operations in the country in 1998. From then on, Pirelli tyres equipped close to 50% of the Toyota´s production. The Tyre Company also constantly struggles to deepen the quality of the products which are developed jointly with Toyota and fulfill all the strict performance level required.

In order to be awarded in the Quality field, the supplier could not have any part returned all over the year and also could not receive any complain after the vehicle’s sale. To the Logistics, the criteria are fulfill 100% the delivery’s requests and also cannot delay them.

This was not the first time that Pirelli was certified by Toyota:  the company had already won in 2006 and 2007 with Logistic Excellence Award and reached the Toyota’s Quality Certificate in the years of 2004, 2005 and 2007 to finally conquer the Quality Excellence Award in 2008.

PIRELLI SHARED ITS APPROACH TO SUSTAINABILITY WITH THE TURKISH BUSINESS WORLD

LASTIK MAGAZINE_ E. G. Pessina at REC TurkeyOn April 20 and 21 the Pirelli Group Sustainibility Manager, Eleonora Giada Pessina, shared Pirelli Group’s approach to “Sustainability” with the middle and high level managers of the Turkish business world.

Corporate Sustainability Certificate Porgramme has been organized by REC Turkey, in cooperation with Boğaziçi University, aiming to promote “Sustainable Development” in the Turkish private sector. The program took place between 6th of April and 3th of June and included 6 modules. Targeted at mid and high level mangers of Turkish business world, the Programme aimed to give them the necessary information and skills in oder to cope with the challenges of today’s competitive environment.

During these two day long conferences E. G. Pessina underlined the comepetitivity value of a sustainable management approach which fully integrates sustainability in company’s vision and business development strategies. The “Group green strategy” has been explained with a major focus on Cinturato P7, the Green Performance Tyre.

She aldo indicated that sustainability plays a foundamental role in today economic world, by also adding“If today a company wants to be innovative, to anticipate its consumers’ expectations and to catch the most challenging opportunites in the market, all of this with the most valuable relations with its internal and external stakeholders, than sustainibility shall become one of its priorities.”

On that day Pessina’s lecturers were also followed by two video conference dedicated to the “Sustainable Finance” concept, with two very prestigious Experts: Edoardo Gai, Head of SAM Group Sustainability Services, from Zurich  - SAM is the Dow Jones Sustainibility Index Analyst – and then Willam OultonDirector of Financial Times Sustainability Indexes Director, from London.
