From Nigeria an award for Pirelli

Pirelli is also the top tyre brand of the year in Nigeria.

The news arrived from the city of Lagos, where on 21 January an awards ceremony took place for the presentation of the Nigeria Auto Media Awards, the competition organised by the specialised press for the car and transport sector.

For the tyre category, the title ‘2009 Tyre Brand of the Year’ was won by Pirelli, present in Nigeria through its distributor The Infinity Group which, with its sales organisation, after sales network and competence, contributed to the achievement of the award.

The special ‘Diamond Jewel Award’ was received by Lorenzo Arrigone, Pirelli Area Manager – West Africa.

Premio alle Invenzioni: the patents of Bicocca

With eight patents selected from those conceded and 53 requests for patents deposited during the course of 2008, this year Pirelli also celebrated its innovative ability with the Awards for Inventions ceremony and the traditional presentation of gold and silver plaques.

Gold plaques for three product patents, two for the production process and three for materials were presented at the Castello degli Arcimboldi, Bicocca, on Thursday 26 November. The winners were 17 inventors of Pirelli Tyre and Parts, who received their plaques from the chairman of Pirelli, Marco Tronchetti Provera. Speakers who described the importance of the award-winning inventions were Francesco Gori, managing director of Pirelli Tyre and director general of Tyre and Parts, Pier Giovanni Giannesi, director of Industrial Property, and Maurizio Boiocchi, Pirelli Tyre Product director.

For the inventors of Pirelli Tyre, Pirelli Labs and Pirelli & C. Eco Technology, authors of the 53 patents deposited in 2008, there was the silver plaque ceremony on Monday 30 November in the Auditorium of the Pirelli Tyre Building, Bicocca. Speakers at that ceremony were Francesco Gori, Pier Giovanni Giannesi, Bruno Tronchetti Provera, managing director of Pirelli & C. Eco Technology, Maurizio Boiocchi and Enrico Albizzati of Pirelli Labs.

Pirelli ‘2009 top investor in China’

For “knowing best how to gather opportunities in the Chinese market”, Pirelli was presented with the 2009 Top Investor in China award in Milan on Wednesday 25 November as part of the 2009 China Awards organised by the Italy-China Foundation. A special evening which took place under the patronage of Italy’s Ministry for Economic Development and its Foreign Ministry in partnership with Italian Chamber of Commerce in China with a contribution of the Intesa San Paolo Bank, which saw Pirelli, together with other companies including Brembo, Italcementi and Iveco, as protagonists of Italian entrepreneurial activity, which had distinguished itself for the importance of its investments in China. The presentation of 2009 China Awards took place during a charity dinner, the proceeds from which will be donated to the Lifeline Express project, a hospital train that travels the most remote regions of China to cure cataracts.

Swiss motorists prefer Pirelli – P lunga is the year’s best tyre brand for the fourth consecutive year according to ‘Auto Illustrierte’ readers

For the fourth consecutive year, Pirelli has won the ‘Best Tuning Cars & Best Brands 2009’, the contest most liked by the readers of ‘Auto Illustrierte’ (AI), the prestigious independent Swiss motoring magazine. In a survey involving over 2,000 readers, Pirelli was declared the best tyre brand of 2009.

The ‘Best Brand’ contest has by now become an important institution of AI magazine, especially for tuning enthusiasts. Dieter Jermann, Director Swiss Market, Pirelli Tyre (Europe) SA, personally received the ‘Best Brand Award 2009’ during the l’Auto Zürich Car Show, the most important and most visited car fair in German Switzerland, which took place in the city from 5-8 November.

Pirelli Tyre receives the Innovation Award in the "Day of Research"

Rome, 6 November – On the occasion of the VII Giornata della Ricerca (VII Day of Research), an awards ceremony took place for the 2009 Premio Imprese x Innovazione (2009 Award for Business Innovations) won last June by Pirelli Tyre, together with Datalogic and Whirlpool Europe, in the ‘large corporations’ category “for the major contribution of innovation to business results, achieved through the integration of concepts and instruments of innovation into the daily activities of personnel at all levels of the organisation”.

The awards scheme, launched by Confindustria (the Confederation of Italian Industry) in collaboration with APQI – Associazione Premio Qualità Italia (the Quality Award Association of Italy) and a number of experts of the sector, has as its objective to make known and diffuse organisational and strategic models oriented toward growth through innovation.

The Premio was received on behalf of Pirelli Tyre by Maurizio Boiocchi, head of the company’s Product Development. The ceremony was attended by the President of the Italian Republic Giorgio Napolitano, the president of Confindustria Emma Marcegaglia, the vice-president for Research&Innovation Diana Bracco and Mariastella Gelmini, Minister of Education, as a testimony to the authorititativeness of this initiative, now in its third year.

PIRELLI CONFIRMED IN FINANCIAL TIMES SUSTAINABILITY INDEXES FOR THE SEVENTH YEAR IN A ROW

For the seventh consecutive year, Pirelli has been confirmed in the twice-yearly review of Financial Times sustainability indices FTSE4Good World and STOXX, which measure corporate performance in terms of respect for international standards of economic, social and environmental sustainability. British independent research provider Eiris, working for the Financial Times, evaluated among other corporate characteristics: sustainable supply chain management, ethical behaviour rules, means of prevention and management of risk, environmental impact management and relations with stakeholders. The review did not admit new companies to the Automobiles & Parts segment of the indices, continuing to include Pirelli as the only Italian company included in that segment.

PIRELLI CONFIRMED AS GLOBAL SUSTAINABILITY LEADER IN DOW JONES INDEXES

This is the outcome of the 2009 review by the SAM Group of the Dow Jones sustainability indices, in which Pirelli continues to be included both in the DJSI WORLD index and in the European DJSI STOXX index.

Within its segment, the Bicocca Group – the only Italian group that has achieved worldwide leadership – obtained a global rating of 88% (+ 11% with respect to 2008) compared with a segment average of 48%.

Exactly as in previous years, for the Autoparts & Tyres segment, only 4 companies were featured in the DJSI World index: Pirelli & C, Denso Corp, Michelin, and Johnson Control Inc., while only two are included in the DJSI STOXX: Pirelli and Michelin.

SAM (Sustainable Asset Management) is the Swiss ethical rating agency that carries out the process of selection of companies for admission to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, a global index that brings together the best companies in the field of economic, financial, environmental and social sustainability, the result of collaboration between the Dow Jones New York stock exchange index, STOXX Ltd. and the SAM Group. Pirelli was selected and added to the Dow Jones Sustainability STOXX (DJSI STOXX) index for the first time in 2002 and has been included for years now also in the global Dow Jones Sustainability World Index

PIRELLI LEADER IN CORPORATE GOVERNANCE

The corporate governance model of Pirelli & C. has been rated by GMI (Governance Metrics International) the best in Italy, with a 10/10 score given by the company, which specializes in corporate governance research. GMI’s latest ‘Country Ranking’ (September 2008) assigned an average rating of 5.32/10 to Italy.

In addition to placing in the top slot on a national basis, Pirelli also received a rating of 9/10 in the ranking that includes 4,162 companies evaluated on a worldwide basis, finishing among the highest-ranking companies in the ‘Automobile and Components’ category, where the average score was 5/10.

Governance Metrics International (GMI) is a corporate governance research and ratings firm, which ranked as ‘Top Corporate Governance Research Firm’ in the 2009 Thomson Reuters Extel Survey. The results Pirelli obtained are confirmation of the attention the Pirelli Group reserves to its corporate governance, consistently adopting national and international best practices as its own.

CHINA: P7 AND P ZERO BEST TYRES OF THE YEAR

Pirelli scored a double at the 2009 China Tyre Enterprise Summit, which concluded recently in Shanghai.
The Cinturato P7 was voted “The Best New Tyre of the Year”, the Summit’s most prestigious award, while the P Zero, the high range tyre, won “The Best Ultra-High Performance Tyre” award as a result of its excellent performance in relation to that of its competitors in the category.

The Summit, which focused on an eco-sustainable theme of energy saving and protection of the environment, had at the centre of its debate research into new eco-compatible materials, the introduction of technological innovations that imply a lesser environmental impact and the creation of tyres that are increasingly ‘green’.
The attribution of two such important awards demonstrates the general appreciation by the industrial world of Pirelli’s policy of safety and respect for the environment, which it has pursued in recent years.

The awards were received on behalf of Pirelli by Michael Cati, commercial director of Pirelli Tyre China, who said, “It is a great honour for Pirelli to receive this recognition. From 2005, when the company entered the Chinese market, it has always introduced its latest technology and its new products. The P Zero and Cinturato P7 are proof of that. In line with the theme of the Summit, Pirelli will continue to focus on ‘green’ technology and energy saving while continuing to marry respect for the environment and performance“.

PIRELLI TYRE WINS THE '2009 NATIONAL AWARD FOR INNOVATION"

“For the strong contribution of innovation to the business results, achieved through the integration of concepts and instruments of innovation into the daily activities of the personnel of all levels of the organisation”, Pirelli Tyre has won the 2009 ‘Companies for Innovation’ award as part of the ’2009 National Award for Innovation’ promoted by Confindustria.
For the points achieved and “for the dynamic and integrated innovation used as a lever for the involvement of the whole company, with a view to ensuring the growth and competitiveness at an international level”, Pirelli Tyre won the ‘Award of Awards’, together with other companies that distinguished themselves in the various selected national awards schemes.
The award, which has only been open to large companies from this year, was recognised among the prizes within the framework of the ‘Award of Awards’, instituted in 2008 by the office of the Prime Minister to enhance the best capacity for innovation by companies, universities, administrations, institutions or single creators.
The awards ceremony took place yesterday afternoon in Rome at the Palazzo del Quirinale, where the chairman of Pirelli Marco Tronchetti Provera received the ’2009 National Award for Innovation’ from the Italian head of state, President of the Italian Republic Giorgio Napolitano.
