Group chairman Marco Tronchetti Provera illustrated the results obtained so far in terms of sustainability and the objectives set in the 2009-2011 plan to the audience of financial analysts, investors and rating society experts gathered in the headquarters of Borsa Italiana, the Italian stock exchange.

In particular, after the growth of the green revenue component from 20 to 25% of turnover achieved in 2008 and 2009, the target for the current year is 33%, aimed at achieving the objective of 40% in 2011. Achievements that were also due to new green performance products such as the Cinturato P7 and the Scorpion Verde. He reminded his audience that, for Pirelli, sustainability is not just respecting the environment, but a new management model that is an integral part of the growth strategy for the Group: this is the best way of managing the economic, social and environmental impacts related to processes, products and services  inspired by the principles of the United Nations’ Global Compact, respecting shared policy values, according to the most advanced management systems.

Speakers at the event, opened by Angelo Tantazzi, Chairman of Borsa Italiana and by Paul Druckman, Chairman of Access Technology Group – The Prince’s Accounting for Sustainability Project, were also Giuseppe Van Der Helm, Chairman of Eurosif, and Gian Francesco Imperiali, Chairman of ABB.

63° salone FrancoforteThe two supercars of the Frankfurt International Motor Show, the new Ferrari 458 Italia and the McLaren MP4 12 C, were both displayed with P Zero tyres, the most ultra high performance tyres of the entire range.
The flagship models of the Maserati racing (Quattroporte, Granturismo and Grancabrio ) were also fitted with Pirelli P Zero tyres, as well as the Lamborghini Murcielago, Gallardo and Gallardo Spider; Aston Martin V12 Vantage, Lotus Evora, Bentley CTC, SuperSport, GT Speed, and the new Mulsanne.
Furthermore, the Swedish Volvo and Saab displayed in the Motor Show were fitted with P Zero Rosso tyres: Volvo XC 60, Volvo S80 Executive and Saab 9-3X have chosen the PZero Ultra High Performance version, which combines sport with an extraordinary acoustic comfort thanks to their new tread design.
Scorpion Zero Asimmetrico tyres have also made their appearance in the International Motor Show; they will be fitted on the Volvo XC 70 and XC 60”R design”.
Green performance and safety are the two keywords for modern motor vehicles, where Cinturato P6 and P7 are the leading ranges, recognised as the best tyres by Dekra (a major independent certifying institution of the car industry) and by TÜV (the German certifying institution), for their low environmental impact and safety. Moreover, Cinturato P7 has been chosen as original equipment by Audi (A4, A4 Allroad, A5), Mercedes (E Class, S Class), Alfa Romeo (the new 147), BMW (X1, Series 1, Series 3) and Volvo (S80, V70), and for the latest and most prestigious models of class E, some of which are also exhibited in the Frankfurt International Motor Show.

To receive them, just change your old tyres – worn beyond the legal limits (1.6 mm of tread) – with “green” Cinturato radial tyres. What makes this different from traditional incentives is how it is supplied: this initiative is wholly self-financing, and Pirelli bears all the costs. No government contribution, then, to a measure that is designed to revive the tyre market and stimulate sales of products with low environmental impact.  
acquista_pneumaticiThe initiative falls within the guidelines of the Pirelli 2009-2011 industrial plan, published in February, for the development of increasingly innovative and ecological solutions and products. 
Scrapping worn tyres and replacing them with new “green” ones fulfils three of Pirelli’s aims: ensuring road safety, providing an anticrisis stimulus to support market demand in an unfavourable economic scenario and encouraging consumers to opt for products with low environmental impact. The scheme will run from the end of May to the end of July 2009. 
The initiative was presented in Rome today by Pirelli Chairman Marco Tronchetti Provera, and the Chief Executive Officer of Pirelli Tyre, Francesco Gori, as part of an event attended by Altero Matteoli, Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Adolfo Urso, Undersecretary of State for Economic Development and International Trade, Mario Valducci, Chairman of the Transport, Post and Telecommunications Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, and Andrea Mondello, Chairman of Unioncamere, the national umbrella organisation for Chambers of Commerce throughout Italy.
